How many edited pictures did you get back?

MJ, on October 30, 2016 at 10:50 AM Posted in Planning 1 14

I am in the process of hiring a photographer. There is one photographer I do like - but in his contract he states that they only promise to deliver 300 edited pics. He said it's usually more but that's the min he promises.

We don't get raw images.

Is that a good amount? I mean to me it sounds a lot but is it a lot? I'm having 2 ceremonies and a reception in one day.

300 is a lot of pictures.

    Why 2 ceremonies? Just curious.

Oh okay, I just didn't know the norm. I think my cousin received about 700 so I was comparing it to her. This photographer also has a 2nd shooter. We are doing a short traditional Cambodian ceremony. Usually it's days long but his parents picked out specific rituals to do. We will then do a regular America ceremony (walk down aisle, 15 min type thing) followed by reception.

To me, the NUMBER of photos is completely moot. I used to be a photo editor for another wedding photographer, often he shot me upwards of 2000 photos....and probably 2/3 of them wouldn't make the cut if left up to me. More redundancy and cookie cutter run and gun photography. No thought process. I shoot slower unless a very demanding moment, and usually deliver 350-500 on average...so if you had one who bragged about how many, but the one who thoughtfully documented each moment and delivered 300, who would you rather have? I mean, there are only 70-100 on average in an album anyway.

Why no RAWS? Why would you want them? That doesn't happen because our finished work is what represents our brand, and you don't need them anyhow.

The norm in our area is about 800 images, although I'm not certain how many of those are retouched.

1300. There was a photographer and an assistant photographer, for about 9 hours. We also paid $100 extra, for an assistant, who was supposed to line-up shots and such. He really didn't, which I regret. Instead, he took even more photos. I think it was done on purpose. The photo album for our package only had a certain number of photos. We ended up paying around $900 extra to upgrade the album cover and add another 40 shots. Not happy about that.

We get 400 edited photos for sure. But, she usually delivers 600+ for our package.

    I'd say it's standard.

The standard for most pros is to to do basic exposure, color, contrast, some black and whites as post production, not actual retouching. Personally, I do cosmetic retouching at my discretion.

We got approx. 30 for the engagement shoot. I expect around the same for bridals since the engagement shoot was only 50-60 minutes. Our contract says 700+ for the wedding, but that is over 6-hours, so many will be similar shots.

We're getting back 800-900 but we also have two shooters. I would ask them for a full gallery for one of their past weddings that's similar to yours. 300 should be plenty as long as you like range that you see in one of the full galleries.

Our contract stated a minimum of 500 but we received around 700-800 I believe (all hand edited and retouched). This was two photographers over about 10 hours.

No good photographer would provide you with raw images.
