How many cupcakes should i make for the wedding?

emily , on April 7, 2018 at 8:25 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
We are planning on doing either regular cupcakes or mini cupcakes as our dessert, but we aren't sure how many we need total or how many we should do of each flavor.

We are doing sandwiches and salads for dinner and the cupcakes will be the only dessert. I think we are planning on doing either 3 or 4 different flavors and we will have about 60-70 people there.

We do want to have some extra cupcakes because we are going to have these little plastic cupcake bags for people to take home a cupcake with them. If we do regular cupcakes each bag will fit 1 cupcake, or 4 mini cupcakes. I know not everyone will want a cupcake to go, but I think most people will because most of our guests love sweets.

If anyone has any advice on how many to make total, and for each flavor that would be great. I'm making all of the cupcakes myself so I'm not worried about ordering them of anything.

You should hire a bakery to take care of this fort you. Generally the rule of thumb is 2.5 desserts per person.

Sandwiches and salad isn’t a very filling dinner, so I might err on the side of more food.

Support a local bakery & have it to do the leg work. Maybe stick with traditional flavors: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry & then add in a few unique ones: hazelnut, coffee, cinnamon ( these are just some random ones that popped into my head.) Definitely consider having a professional baker make them. If you are a professional baker, support another baker & have them make your cupcakes. With the amount of people you're inviting and flavors, maybe 25-30 of each flavor.

I'd say 200-250 regular size if you want some to be taken home.

Having to make so many cupcakes while dealing with last minute details and stress will mean you'll most likely need to start making them more than several days in advance. Your cupcakes may be dry by the time your day actually comes around. I'd say you would need more than 200 cupcakes, but a baker can give you a more accurate number.

Given the simple dinner I would stick w just two flavors. And I agree with the prior post, def make sure to hire someone, you don't want to be baking or make someone in your family bake or cook that day. Simple is fine, but you should consider adding something else for food, perhaps a pasta dish and at least a protein (chicken, beef, etc.) Good luck!

We have chosen fall colors since we will be getting married in October and are having 4 flavors as well with each flavor matching my theme colors! We will keep the top 2 tier cake ivory buttercream with raspberry filling because it is my favorite Smiley smile We go for cake tasting! next Thursday 2 dozen
    Burgundy- Red velvet 2 dozen
    Brown- Chocolate 2 dozen
    Yellow- Vanilla 2 dozen

Typically it is supposed to be 1.5 cup cakes per person. When you add in different flavors that number goes up since people will want to try the different ones (so maybe 2.5 per person if you have 3 kinds). And you will have to add additional cup cakes to that number if you want people take some home. So you're looking at anywhere from 175-250 depending on how many flavors you do.

For flavors we are doing a lavender honey, a lemon blueberry, and a chocolate fudge. I do appreciate everyone suggesting we hire a Baker, but that is definitely not what we want to do. I enjoy baking and my fiance is a sous and the restaurant is going to let us use the mixer and equipment so it will be easier to make everything. I'm not at all worried about making the cupcakes myself or before hand or the stress. I've thought about it and have plenty of people who are going to help me. We are keeping things inexpensive and in house and are doing most everything by ourselves, so we do want to do the cupcakes ourselves. Really we just are just trying to figure out numbers and stuff so we make enough.

I would plan for 3.5 per guest, since you want them to take them home. If cupcakes are your only dessert, I would do regular cupcakes. If they aren't your only dessert, you could probably get away with 2.5 per guest or do mini cupcakes.

I'm a baker and couldn't imagine doing my own cupcakes for my wedding. Hire a bakery. There's too much stress and too many details you'll need to see to, cupcakes can/should be given to someone else to handle. You'll thank yourself in the long run.

I made 48 cupcakes once for my son’s birthday party.... I spent HOURS doing it. I was exhausted for his party.

Last uear my sister and I baked his cake... again hours to do. I definitely couldn’t imagine trying to do that on my wedding day. I was stressed as heck just for a birthday party!

If you hired a Baker they would he able to tell you, since they have experience and are professionals. Hire a professional.

Good for you! Sounds like you know what you are doing, and with having access to commercial equipment, it should be fun!

I personally would allow 2 cupcakes per person.

I'm making my own cupcakes too! I haven't figured out the guest count 100% yet but i'm thinking of doing 100 vanilla and 100 chocolate regular sized cupcakes. For around 100-125 guests. I'm just not sure if I should make more vanilla than chocolate because people generally like vanilla more in my experience.

I made 100 cupcakes for work one time for someones birthday and it wasn't hard at all, so honestly my best advice is to make sure you have enough cupcake pans to cook multiples at once or else it will take you forever. Cupcakes are one of those things that people just can't stop eating. They see one and they take it and stuff it in their mouth so if you're not having any other dessert, I would do 4 a person lol. I'm also having a candy table and not having a cake so mine is a little different.

We are having 250+ guests. We have ordered 600 cupcakes. We are having 3 different flavors. We are also having a dessert table of desserts that follow the theme of our reception. I would rather have more than not enough.
