How many bottles of wine for 125?

LouLou6218, on January 13, 2018 at 2:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Trying to get a head start on collecting wine.. how many bottles do you think we will need to serve about 125 guests? Also, if we have a bartender to manage, how are kegs generally viewed at a casual outdoor wedding?

I'm using kegs. I would suggest putting them in a more visually pleasing tub if they will be seen. For calculations, I've found amazing calculators online that I'm using.

You can normally get between 4-5glasses per bottle, so it will depend on how many wine drinkers you have. We are having about 150 people and will have about 40 bottles of wine, but we are also having a full open bar. Kegs for an outdoor wedding should be fine especially if it's outdoors since they take up a lot of space. We are using big wooden trunks with ice for our beer.

***Also we are heavy drinkers LOL and plan on using leftovers at our afterparty

Forty bottles of wine for 150 people will give 200 glasses (about one and a third glasses per person) if poured by the bartender, less if the guests pour their own from a bottle on the table. I don't think you are going to have much wine leftover. That is barely enough for a toast.
To the OP- General advice is one glass of wine per hour per guest. Wine is one thing you don't have to worry about buying too much. Many vendors will take back unopened bottles in good condition. You could also just add them to your cellar given that you will likely get them at a discount for a bulk purchase.

I had a couple of friends that gave me their post-wedding alcohol invoices after returned unopened bottles. One friend had 150 guests and the other 175; both in DC. Both used around 6-7 cases of wine for 5-6 hour wedding (with Cocktail Hour and Reception). My guests are heavy wine drinkers so we are buying 7 cases of wine.
