How many bartenders should I have?

Mia, on November 28, 2017 at 5:42 PM

I'm going to have about 190-225 people at my reception. It will start at 4:30 and end at 11:00. Should I have 1 or 2 bartenders?

I'm having 100 or so guests and my caterer is providing 2 bartenders.

My venue requires 1 bartender for every 50 guests.

Our venue that comes with the bar and bartenders does 1 bartender for every 50 people.

3 to 4... 1 per 50 people, at least that's what most venues told us.

Not sure what state you're in but I don't think it's legal for a bartender to work that long without a break, if that answers your question.

At least 2, and as most people have pointed out, probably more. My venue mandated a second bartender if you have over 100 guests, less than 100 it was your choice.

Our venue requires one bartender for every 50 guests, so I would say more like 3-4!

We have one bartender for every 75 guests. So for your number I would have two bartenders and then what we call a bar server. This person is behind the bar for cocktail hour because that is normally the busiest time. They will then bounce back and forth between the bar and the floor. They also will re stock, get glassware and take out bar trash. (Well really we share those duties). If the bar is really busy then the bar server never really leaves the bar.

Former bartender here, you only need 2. Unless you plan on offering specialty drinks (that take more time to make), then 3.

It may be crazy around 530-630 but once everyone has a drink, 2 can manage.

Definitely need more than 1. We had 1 for 100 guests (my venue's minimum) and we definitely could've used another one since lines were a little longer than I would've preferred.

Our venue coordinator is recommending 2 for our 150 guests. I'd do 3-4 for your guests

As a bartender please have at least 3. In addition to not wanting your guests to gave to wait for drinks. Mad crowds of people rushing the bar and getting pissy about having to wait for a drink will but your understaffed bartender in a less than pleasant mood.
