How long to receive pictures back?

Charla, on April 9, 2015 at 1:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I messed up. I should have asked about how long it would take to get wedding pictures back. I haven't posted my BAM because I don't really have pictures to share (our ceremony was unplugged). I sent the photographer a text asking if she could share any pictures with me yet and she asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I didn't know how to tell her that I wanted pictures from throughout the day to share on a wedding forum. How long should I politely wait?

My photographer told me he is a little backlogged so it'll take 3-4 weeks minimum.

She probably won't/shouldn't share pictures with you until they're edited. Depending on how many pictures you have it takes over a week just to do your pictures not counting anyone else's pictures. In the meantime she also has a life, has other clients, weddings from before you she still has to edit. Typically it's like a 4-5 week minimum for every photographer I've seen on here. My wedding was in the heart of wedding season/Labor Day so it took a little bit longer.

Do you have a contract with her? it likely says something about when to expect them back in there... our contract says 10 weeks. it took exactly one month for us to get our sneak peek. i'm hoping our full package won't be far behind...

ETA: it took me 12 weeks to get our engagements back from her and she promised our wedding photos wouldn't take as long because she was trying to be better at booking her 2015 weddings as to not get overly bogged down. *fingers crossed*

I'm really surprised at how many of these photog's don't post a few "sneak peeks" for their clients. That is always my #1 priority after shooting a wedding. Plus, if I can edit and post 5-10, it keeps the brides off my back for a while until I can get all of them done.

I can't believe I didn't think to look at my contract. There's a six week turn around.

@chloe: it really depends on how many weddings they book themselves for and how many photos they end up sending. i noticed when shopping, that a lot of photogs have a set limit on how many photos they will edit and send for a wedding. my photog doesn't limit hers and i'll end up getting around 2-3x more what i saw from other photogs.

there's a lot of factors in why it takes so long and why it doesn't.
