Hi WW loves! It's been awhile since I last posted. Anyways, I was wanting some input from you. I recently spoke with our Coordinator about our timeline. We aren't even close to setting that in stone, just now starting to draft it. We have our venue from 3-1am. It is a Sunday wedding, however, it will be a destination wedding for most guests. Almost all of our guests will either be flying or driving for several hours. Our timeline we were comfortable with would be:

3-6 Getting Ready and pictures

6-6:30 Ceremony

6:30-7:30 Cocktail Hour

7:30-12 Reception

The last hour is for clean up for vendors. Apparently, that's a "reallyyy long" reception according to our coordinator. She suggested we end at 10:30. What do y'all think? I feel like people are coming from all over and will likely be getting hotels anyways, not like most will be trying to fly or drive home that night. Also, we've invested lots of money into our venue, id hate to waste money on what we paid for. Thoughts please!

I think it just depends on your group. Mine will be short and sweet. I'm assuming everyone will be gone by 9:00 (probably 8:30, because that's when we're leaving), and will start whenever the first guest gets there around 4:00/4:30. Dinner will be at 6:00.

That's mostly because we're not having dancing, and we're also inviting a large percentage of families and elderly, so there would be maybe only an 1/8 of the people who would want to stay late and party if it was an option. I've never stayed at a reception myself past 9:00 but that's also because I'm a baby and just not a late night party person.

Our reception is from 6-12. Most wedding receptions I have been to are between 5-6 hours long.

Don't listen to your coordinator. 3 hours is too short!

    Our timeline is:

    10:30am-2:30pm Photos

    3:30pm-4:00pm Ceremony

4:00pm-4:30pm Cocktail "Hour" / Family Photos

    4:30pm-10:30pm Reception

I don't think that's too long at all, sounds somewhat similar to ours, except pushed forward an hour. We did cocktails 5-6:30pm and then dinner/dancing 6:30-10:30pm, with the last dance at 10:30pm and the goal of getting everyone out by 11pm so the vendors could clean up and break everything down by the midnight deadline. We could easily have extended it a bit, most guests stayed until the very end. I think the after party went until 3am at the hotel.

Edit: this was also on a Sunday, albeit before a Monday holiday, and a pseudo-destination (2 hours away for us and a few friends, everyone else travelled further) so the majority spent the night.

Cocktail hour from 430-530pm, dinner/dancing/ect was over around 820, we had the venue until 10 but the last hour was for cleaning. Most people had left or were leaving by 830.

We're planning for 6:15-1am cocktail hour included. This is typical in our circle. Of course people can leave when they want to, but the last wedding I went to with FH's family, everyone stayed until 1 am.

Sounds really weird that she'd think that's too short. Our cocktail hour will be from 7-8, then reception from 8-12. Our schedule is half an hour shorter than yours. I thought a 4-5 hour reception was the norm.

Our reception was scheduled 7 to 12 with the last hour being clean up. A lot of people left by 10 1030 and we were cleaned and out by 1130. Just go by when your guests start leaving. Honestly it went so quick I thought it was too short!

The good thing i love about our venue is we have it for the entire day and we are the only ones there. They let us in at noon even though we have an evening ceremony.

    7-7:30 ceremony

    7:30-8:30 cocktail hour

    8:30-1:30 reception
