How long is too long to keep your guest waiting?

Ashley, on September 19, 2016 at 9:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

After the ceremony the bridal party will be taking pictures. I'm trying to come up with a reasonable timeline I don't want to keep my guest waiting too long. So here is a little outline of what I got so far. Any suggestions? My wedding is from 4pm to 10pm. We have an onsite taco caterer and he comes an hour ahead to prep the meat.

4-4:30 ceremony

4:30-5:30 guest escorted to ballroom for cocktails and appetizers

4:30-5:30 bridal party photos

5:30-5:40 introduction of bridal party

5:40-5:45 first dance

5:45-7:50 dinner

Also how much time do you think is enough time to dance? I love dancing and if I could dance all night I would lol. Help???

What will the bridal party being doing from 4:30-5:30? Typically photos are taken during the cocktail hour.

    2 hours is too long

ETA: doh. I can't read! I think what you have looks great!!! (Sorry- I thought those were two separate hours. Yikes)

The hour for cocktail hour/photos will be perfect. An hour won't be too long. I also think the 2 hours left after dinner will be enough time for dancing.

I think this is a perfect timeline. I'm just wondering if dinner will really take 2 hours. Otherwise it looks great!

The timeline seem normal to me. Which part are you worry about the guest waiting?

Check with your caterer, but 2 hours for dinner seems super long to me. Is it a sitdown dinner? Everything else looks right to me.

For Buffet style dinner, the food is allow to be out in the open of exactly 2 hours, which is what we are doing.

From 4:30-5:30 the photos will be done it's so log because I have somewhat of a huge bridal party 2 MOH, 2 BM, 4 "glitter slaves" (IM JOKING!!! Lol I don't expect them to do nothin g but show up), 1 JB, 4 GM, 2 FG, and 1 RB.

The taco catering guy offers a 2 hour service and it's unlimited tacos the whole two hours. I always wanted plated but I KNOW for a fact that my family can eat anyone out of a house and home, lol so I kinda want to keep them and everyone else happy? Who doesn't like all you can eat taco!? So as the time goes when we open up the dance floor guest can still choose to eat if they want.

I guess I was worried about the hour long for photos would be too long for guests to wait. But I needed just a general time frame and if we don't take too long we'll move on to the next event

During dinner we'll be doing toasting and father/bride and mother/groom dances as well.

I'm excited to know how your taco guy is going to work out. I'm 90% sure I'm doing the same type of "catering". Our families can eat!! Your timeline looks similar to mine. Smiley smile

One hour cocktail hour, especially with appetizers is pretty normal.

Hi Wedding date buddy! I think your timeline seems fine. I just met with my photographer today to go over timeline and she said an hour is more than enough time for photos and the guest probably won't even notice it. I'd talk to your photographer if you're worried about the timeline.

As a guest, I'm completely cool with this with this timeline. I won't eat your catered tacos (save yourself the money and just pass trays of champagne and wine -- tacos are too f'ing messy for ladies in expensive gowns).

You're fine -- I just went to an unbelievably opulent family wedding this weekend. The first hour was great -- socializing, picking up escort cards, and picking up glasses of soft alcohol from silver trays. Then, a 40 minute ceremony. That was followed by a top shelf open bar cocktail hour with tons of app stations. After that, we went to the reception area. Nobody could dare complain. It was a gorgeous night out. I can hardly wait for the next wedding, even if it's in January -- which it is.

Whew thanks ladies!!!! I was a bit nervous!

@Sarah M. I had to pick between this or a set up buffet. I was terrified of the buffet because my family will eat and won't care if anyone else gets food *eye roll*. Literally at family get together when they say food's done you BETTER get you a plate because they won't care if you get any at all. But our taco guy will get fresh meat that morning and marinates it himself. He will then come an hour ahead of time and start the meat. Guest are able to come up and get their food and have a choice of three type of meats and sides and all the condiments. The first round they're allowed up to four tacos and once everyone has theirs they can go back for how ever much they want. Also if there's meat or any other food left over we get to keep those.

@Nastassia B. I love your name!!! I had a friend with the same name I think ya so lovely. But yes I plan on shortening it bit. I highly doubt we'll need that much time but just want to allow guest enough time to eat.

@Mercedes B. Hey twin!!!! That's what my photographer said that it takes a while to shoot a large party and it also depends on how many poses. Knowing my goofy party they will take pics all day. I have to come up with must do photos for sure
