How long is the "party portion" of your reception?

Everything is at one place so it’s back to back, but after dinner I realized it only leaves 1.5 hours for dessert and dancing. Doesn’t that seem really short? We have the option of adding on another hour ($&dollarSmiley winking and opening a tab ($&dollarSmiley winking, but I was going to just play that by ear. Now I’m wondering if it is more of a necessity. I feel like I lost any concept of time at most weddings I have been to, so I’m not really sure how long the “party” part lasts?

So far our day looks like this:

    6pm-Ceremony

    7pm-Dinner (finish pics between 620ish and 7)

830-First dance (may push it back to 8/815)

    1230-Reception finish

Cake will be sometime between I don't know when yet.

I haven't read all the comments, but are you doing an after party? I feel like at 930 I would just be starting to get into it and your reception would be over.
