How long is the average reception?

My venue is giving us 4-5 hours to use the ballroom for the reception alone. This may be a not so smart question, but I wanted to know how long do people normally drink and dance at a wedding? I want to know if I’ll need to ask for more time.

I think 4-5 hours is the average timing! Ours will be a 1 hour cocktail hour and then 3.5 hour reception.

4-5 hours is perfect for a friday/saturday wedding. Sunday weddings can be too but typically end early in my experience so mine is scheduled to be over at 11 but I'm expecting 9/10 lol

I'd say 5 hours is a good amount of time. My reception will start at 6 and I hope it doesn't go past 11. Good luck!
