How long is normal to wait for Video and Photos?

gina, on June 27, 2019 at 3:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

It's been almost 9 weeks since I got married, but I have not gotten back the majority of my photos. Also, I am waiting on my video as well. Both vendors post of social media, and I have seen several wedding video teasers posted of couples married after me. I emailed them the other day to double check when I pay them the remainder of the balance, just to make sure they were not waiting on me. They said that I pay the balance when video is finished, but they are still editing the video. I checked my contract, but neither say how long they have to give me both, so I was wondering how long is considered normal.

I'm not sure that there is a "normal," which is why it's important to make sure that turnaround time is included in your contract. I would directly ask them when you can expect your photos and video. Our photography contract has a 10-12 week turnaround time during peak season (May-October) and 8-10 weeks outside of peak season. Video contract states that the entire package will be delivered within 2-5 months, but the highlight video will be available within 2 months.

I’ve recently shared this advice with my newly engaged friend. I will give it another 2 weeks and then ask them. I don’t want them to rush through anything, but wondering why it’s taking longer than others.

Many photographers and videographer can be usually booked through 2 years, meaning they could have peak seasons that they are swamped with client work. Your vendors might be working on editing various clients works at the same time. I know one of mine did the same thing because she was booked like crazy. I recommend contacting them asking when you should expect your photos and video to be done and mentioning that in the contract they never stated turnaround time.

Our photography contract says 8 week turnaround time on our photos. My cousin did our videography and he told me that for every hour of video he shot it would be 3 hours of editing work.

My husband and I got married April 9. Our videographer said that we would get our wedding video back in about 4 to 6 weeks on one email. The contract says 6 to 8 weeks with a due date of June 2. There were other conversations where he put even sooner expectations with me immediately reached out to him to be our videographer. We have been pretty disappointed since the wedding because he has not communicated with us one bit. I had to reach out to him on the contract to do date to do a pulse check. I was very kind and showed sympathy for the fact but it takes a while to edit I’m sure and that we were excited to see what he has put together for us. Expecting at least an apology in response. But he did not apologize he just said that it would be about 1 to 2 more weeks. We are at two weeks in a day. And still have not heard from him. We are very disappointed on his lack of communication with us even after being late and breaking in the contract . I don’t know what is normal for videographers. With any job life gets in the way and things happen. But for some reason there’s always an excuse with photographers and videographers to be late on contracts . My photographer was great. Communicated with me and even let me know she would be a week late before she was even actually late. I wasn’t so bothered in the beginning but my husband and I noticed him posting sneak peak videos of a wedding that happen after ours when we haven’t gotten our sneak peak video back at the time. I’m sure our video will be amazing whenever we finally get it but I am sad I have to be the bad guy and write in my review for him his lake of communicating and breaking contract really upset us when we paid 3,900 for his service..
