How long is normal to wait for our videographer videos?

Megfly, on May 10, 2022 at 3:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Hi! Quick question. We got married in November 2021. I was told our videographers turn around time was 6 months. It’s now May and we still don’t have our videos. I texted the videographer in April and he said he was working on July 2021 weddings. That seems a long turn around time…. Is this normal? We also had to pay for everything in advanced… seems like a lot of money to fork out to have to wait this long for videos. What has been y’all’s experience? Thanks

Especially last year, so many vendors were overwhelmed with weddings due to postponements from COVID/2020, plus all the weddings they had already booked for 2021. It does sound like a long turnaround time, but it also sounds like he's running a little bit behind his normal schedule. I would ask him for an updated estimate on when you can expect to receive your video, and give him a little extra time to complete it. If he doesn't meet the new timing that he provides, then I think it'd be fair to be a little more insistent on receiving your video. Does your contract specify the 6 month turnaround?

That makes sense… it just seemed a bit long like from his current time line it would seem we would get it a year later and that just seemed crazy to me lol.

Honestly I have no idea what the contract specifically for him said since our venue everything was included. Even the wedding planner. I had to text my wedding planner for the videographer information since I hadn’t heard anything.

This seems ridiculous and I would be following up.

An 8-12 week turnaround is normal but 6 months is absurd by industry standards!

I’ve never heard of a 6 month turnaround time. 8-12 weeks is pretty normal

I think it also depends on what all you are going to receive. Video editing is very time consuming. So, if you’re getting a longer video reel it may take longer to produce.

What does your contract say about when to expect the finished video? If it stated 6 months, then it should be delivered at 6 months. I would point this out to the videographer, and ask for a discount if they can't meet deadlines.

Our videographer got ours back to us 2 weeks after our wedding! There was a highlight video and a bunch of other videos.
