How long does the cake cutting take?

Gen, on May 24, 2019 at 10:21 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

This might be a stupid question hahaha, but how long does it actually take to cut the cake (by which I mean, how long does the "cake cutting" that you and your spouse do part of the reception take? NOT including how long it takes the servers to actually cut pieces for the guests). It couldn't possibly take more than 5 mins, right...?

I ask because we were originally planning to cut our cake at 4pm as our photographer leaves at 4:30. But I was considering pushing the cake cutting just a bit, to 4:15, in order to have a little more time with our guests at the reception before it is broken up. If we cut the cake at 4:15 and our photographers leave 15 mins later, are they going to miss anything? There's no way it would possibly take 15 mins to cut a cake, right? (I don't care about them missing the cake actually being served and people eating it btw, just the actual cutting of the cake!)

It took like 2 minutes, literally.

Perfect haha, that's what I figured but I haven't been to a wedding that actually had a cake in a long time (last wedding I went to was just cupcakes) so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something Smiley tongue Yay so we'll have an extra 15 mins of party time!

Once your guests are all together (assuming you're gathering them all to do this) it's like 1 minute. You'd certainly be able to do it in under 15 min if you want to push back the cake cutting a bit

It takes less than 5 minutes - but gathering people, making sure we had the cake knife and server, and waiting for the photographer and videographer to be ready (testing the light and setting up their shot) took like 5-10 minutes!

The last 2 weddings I went to, I've missed the cake cutting because I blinked. Smiley smile

Make sure your DJ announces it!! It's such a pet peeve of mine to miss the cake cutting and I have basically at more than one wedding because nobody says anything. It's like they bride and groom and photographer just go over and I am like "wait what's this crowd?!" and by that time they've already cut their slice. Smiley cry

Like 1 minute to cut it, feed it to each other, smile and kiss. You can push it to 4:15 easily.

Depends on tradition. We did it the German way so there was a lot of power play to get the upper hand and it probably took us 10-15 minutes.

It takes seconds to cut a piece of cake (same as a birthday cake) Lol! And maybe a total of a minute just to get pics before and after it’s cut.
