How long does it take?

Alexis, on November 19, 2019 at 6:08 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
I’m starting to put together my day of timeline and I was wondering how long toasts/first dances and stuff like that will actually take... also is it weird to have toasts going on while people are eating dinner?

It’s pretty typical to have toasts at the end of dinner. Length obviously depends on the person and how many speeches you’ll have. We’ve planned for about 3-4 minutes per speech. First dance, again, depends on your song.

We wanted to have our toasts going on during the first course but unfortunately the venue didn’t serve the food until after 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

You should tell the people making the toasts not to take more than 2-3 minutes. Despite being told this, they’ll probably go over lol. Luckily my MOH listened, but my mom and our best man talked for 4-5 minutes each. Then husband and I gave a really quick 30 second toast. So I’d say our speeches total took a little under 15 minutes total? Maybe like 12? Keeping it to 10 would have been ideal though.
Dances are easy to time because you can just time the song lol.

Yup. Everything will just run smoothly no gaps or stopping the dancing.

I guess you have to take into consideration the length of time you want each to be. For instance how long is the song you wanna dance to?

I've never seen a toast AFTER dinner. usually before or during salads. toasts usually take 5-6 minutes depending on how many people will be giving one. We did introductions of our bridal parties and my parents - then we immediately did our first dance. father/daughter dance and groom/daughter dance. then salads were served and we began toasts.
