How long does it take to receive your venue contract?

We got ours within a couple days of touring.

We got ours the same day we told the event planner we would like to lock our day in.

Pretty much when you give a deposit you get the signed contract. If they didn't, I would request to get a copy just in case something would occur down the road. We got our contract signed the day after we toured and had our deposit ready.

With your situation, I would call and say we want to book that date you were told was free and you have the deposit ready (if you know the deposit). Keep this in mind though... this sounds like they may have forgot you wanted to book with them or lost your information... which could make someone second guess the Venue's professionalism.
