How long does it REALLY take to get your dress after you order?

I am about 9 months out and still have not gone dress shopping. I don't even plan to til october as I'm using it as inspiration to drop the weight I've gained this year. Has anyone waited or plan to wait 5 months before wedding to dress shop? Why or why not? I also dont plan on getting anything...

Has anyone waited or plan to wait 5 months before wedding to dress shop? Why or why not? I also dont plan on getting anything custom either. I'm going to keep it simple.

It depends on your dress, the designer, and the salon. One of my dresses took 6 months. The other took nearly 9 months to come in. Then you have to plan 3-6 weeks for fittings and alterations.

I ordered mine in January. They told me it would be in by July and it ended up coming in last month. Still, I wouldn't take the chance. It CAN take that long. Also remember you need time for alterations!

I waited for the same reasons as you are. I bought a dress 2 weeks ago from a small boutique, and there was no time to order one. Fortunately I found one I loved off the rack. The alterations are going to take a few weeks and I am about 3 months out.

I got my dress last month with being 4 months out. BUT I was stressing hard about not having mine picked out yet. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't wait as long as I did knowing the stress I had. It is a huge relief just knowing I picked one out.

I ordered my dress from a boutique. It's Justin Alexander.. I ordered early August and it came in end of April. My window was 6-8 months and it was almost 9.

It will depend on if you are willing to buy off the rack, samples or from stores like Davids that have a much quicker turn around time. My advice is to start looking now, you can always alter your dress after you've lost weight and alterations can take up to 3 months.

I'd say get this started ASAP!!

My reception dress to 5 months. My ceremony dress to 7.5 months. However, both needed additional alterations which added another 3 - 4 weeks to both.
