How long do dress alterations take?

Amanda, on September 5, 2016 at 5:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

My dress is supposed to come in soon. My wedding is in about 4 months. I'm losing some weight so I will probably need my dress to be taken in, and I also plan to add sleeves, and the skirt will need to be hemmed. I also wanted to lose a bit more weight before the wedding so I wanted to wait a little while before I do any alterations. How long do dress alterations take? Do I have enough time to wait a little longer before I need to take the dress in?

I would go in about 2 months before the wedding. I took my dress in about the last week of August .They hemmed my dress, added a 9 point bustle, added a belt, and added a sweetheart neckline and I am picking it up wednesday. My alterations are from Davids Bridal. My alterations took about 3-4 weeks. But you have a lot more to get done then I did.

Definitely start at least 2 months before the wedding - and good seamstresses get booked up, so get on their schedule now!

They can start with things like hemming and sleeves now. If you tell them you're planning to lose weight, they can wait on taking it in until a later fitting.

I did mine at David's bridal and it's taking 3 weeks for them to be done.

I had my dress hemmed (it was really complicated because it swoops a lot), cups put in and added a bustle and it only took my seamstress a week.

It all depends on how much work needs to be done & how busy your seamstress will be. I need a 1-point bustle and cups put in (nothing else... no hem, no taking in) and I needed the dress to my seamstress 8 weeks ahead of time. I'd suggest you reach out now so you are on time for alterations.
