How late is too late to have an engagement party?

I think it depends on when you're planning on getting married. If you're going to have a long engagement and the weddings is far off then I say go for it. But if you're wedding date is getting near (and you've already sent save the dates) then it's probably to late to have an engagement party. In which case maybe consider doing a co-Ed shower instead to compensate.

Whenever someone wants to throw you one is when you have it. Do not throw a party for yourself.

Engagement parties aren't necessary. I would imagine that 5 months into your engagement pretty much everyone important already knows that you're engaged. If someone has offered to host one, then I would let them. If no one has offered to host one, I would forget the idea of an engagement party.

I agree with everyone else, it all depends on how long your engagement is. I got engaged in November 2015 and my family is throwing us one at the end of the month. We are having a long engagement though.

I got engaged in January. We had originally planned on a sept 2017 wedding. So both our moms planned an engagement party for this oct. Moslty because my FMIL is traveling most of the summer and won't be home til the middle of sept. Well now we moved it up to May and they are still insisting on the party. I don't want it because it's too close but everyone says it's fine. So our party is oct 1. As for pictures u have plenty of time.

I agree that only if someone else is throwing it for you. Engagement pictures I feel like you can take whenever though really
