How late do you wait until contacting people for RSVP's?

Katherine, on December 15, 2015 at 5:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

How long before you wait to contact people for RSVP's? Half of my guest list is awesome, and I can't tell if the other half is just assuming it's obvious that they're coming or they don't find it important enough to let me know. I didn't realize how rude it is to wait on that until it is now happening to me.

Wait until the deadline and then you can contact them immediately. It might be practical to wait a couple days after the deadline because people forget that mail takes time and they might throw it into the mailbox on the deadline rather than 2 days before. It happens to everyone, don't stress.

I started contacting them as soon as my deadline passed...I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Ok. I set my deadline as December 1st, they were mailed November 9th (8 weeks before). So I know we are getting into the holidays, but I feel like two weeks after the deadline is a bit rude...

Start making some calls!!!! My deadline was a week after yours and we've contacted every single one we didn't receive...and are only waiting on a firm answer from one, which was promised by the end of this week Smiley smile

Were your RSVP's mail-in or email? If email, you can start right after the RSVP date, though I'd give it a couple days if the RSVP date was a weekend. If they were mail-in, wait an extra week, just in case people just put it in the mail the day-of.

You've already waited 2 weeks after your deadline - you can start contacting them now!

After two weeks, you can definitely contact them! You want to allow enough time to make sure you've run down the last one before the deadline for your caterer to have final numbers.

I contacted them a week before I had to tell the venue my count. That way, I had enough time to reach everyone.

Wait until the deadline, then start contacting people. Some people may be last minute and send it on the deadline bu my plan is to start contacting like the day after my deadline. I want to get headcounts in as soon as possible and start making a seating chart.

We had some guests not receive their invites. Thank you USPS. Smiley sad so we had to reach out sooner to our guests. Most were family so they had received STD's and wondered about the invites and asked my parents. I would suggest reaching out right around the RSVP date, beware it will take some time to collect the rogue RSVP's.

ETA we had two no shows because DH's friend had the wedding date completely wrong. Like had to cancel flights the whole 9. So if you have flaky friends, remind them.
