How large a bouquet should I get if I'm petite?

Nicoletta, on August 2, 2014 at 1:22 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I am a petite person all around and I was wondering what size of bouquet I should with, I have heard anything 6"-12" is standard, btw I am using peonies. I was thinking go 9 inches which is right in the middle.

I had what my florist showed me as a MOH sized bouquet and it was plenty big enough for me! Your florist should have sample bouquets that he/she can show you to give you an idea of both size and shape of different types of bouquets. I'm 5'6", so I'm not petite but I attached a picture of me with my bouquet. Good luck!

I love peonies, not sure where you are from, but I don't think they are in season in January. Around here they are out around March through the end of June. Just expect to pay premium prices if they are blooming already, somewhere. Your florist should be be able to help you with this as well, getting the best deals, or finding a place where they might still be in season. I know I paid about $15 for three stems.

I think mine will be between 8-10 inches. I'm pretty petite and we thought that was a good size.

This is a great question, and it's one you should address with your florist. We don't determine bouquet size until we actually meet the bride. In my opinion, the bouquet should be customized to fit the individual bride. Consider your height, your figure, and the type of gown you're wearing. I don't like to give specific measurements because a petite bride can be a size 2 or a size 20, and what looks perfect for a size 2 bride is going to look like a nosegay on a size 20 bride. There are so many variations that a hard and fast formula is tricky. Each bride is unique. Your dress is also a consideration. A ballgown accomodates a wider bouquet, but that same bouquet could swallow a form fitting gown. Generally, a bouquet that obscure the entire waist or hips is going to look out of proportion.

Gosh I don't remember going over any sizes, but I don't think mine was too big or too small.

You look stunning, Rachey. The bouquet is perfect. When I look at the picture, I see you, your gown, and how happy you look. The flowers are what they should be...a beautiful complement to your overall look.

@thecenterpieceflowers I am 5'3 and a size 2/4/6 so many bouquets that are larger might hide my whole torso. I am thinking of going with one that is 8-9 inches so the bouquet dosn't wear me!

I didn't per-say go over sizes however I am a pretty petite person as well at 5'4 and just clearing 100 lbs, alittle too skinny for me but it is how I am built. I chose a cascading bouquet so I know it will be pretty sizeable

Kasey, what kind of dress are you wearing? Have you tried out carrying any kind of cascade bouquet?

Hmmm... I had no say in how big the bouquet was. The florist met w/me and asked me about color preferences, but it never occurred to me to ask about how big the bouquet was going to be. It turned out to be about 9 inches wide.

I have no clue what style but let me see if I can find a pic of it on my old phone. I can tell you it was a strapless sweetheart top, satin dress with a small train in Ivory color and corset back. I am adding 1/2 in straps from the material they are taking from the bottom to hem bc I am not comfortable with wearing strapless and moving so much. My dress most would say is plain but I really don't like blind and lace makes me itch. I have held mock ones and feel it will work bc my dress is not crazy. My bouquet includes red dark roses and white Stephanotis with pearls
