How is everyone saving for their wedding?

ARIEL, on January 22, 2020 at 2:18 PM Posted in Planning 1 16

Got my 2020 calendar and filled in all the dates that wedding payments are due. Literally all final payments (florist, rest of our venue, photographer, videographer, DOC, and honeymoon) are all due the same week which also happens to be my bday week (yayy for having a wedding a week before my bday). Over 15k. After I had a slight heart attack I figured out how to save for it instead of mindlessly putting a set amount of money in savings. Every month starting next month we are going to tackle a payment and just put it in our savings. For bigger payments we are going to split into multiple months. Ex: florist is 1200 so i will put 600 to the side and he will put in 600 to the side for that month. Florist technically paid. So when it is time to actually pay vendors we can swipe our credit card (gotta get those points) then pay it right away. Our goal is to have no debt on our card from the wedding when we leave for our honeymoon the next day. How is everyone else saving/spending?

We set money aside each paycheck. We also paid in advance so that we didn't all payments due at the same time. My husband used Acorns which is an investment app. That also offers money back on purchases. He has been using it for years. We did use a credit card for some payments and have been slowly paying it off since the wedding. We haven't been able to pay it back as quickly as we would like because my husband lost his job.

Sorry about that. That is why we are trying to pay off a different thing each month. My FH is a tattoo artist, thankfully a successful one, but anything could happen so we are trying to prepare. I don't want to put anything on the credit card unless I am 100% sure it can be paid off at the end of the month. That investment app sounds interesting!

I also use Acorns and love it. All the spare change is going to add up and come in handy in about a year ☺️

We did something very similar as far as scheduling out payments and putting EVERYTHING on the credit card (making sure there wasn't an additional fee to use a credit card). The contracts had payment deadlines such as: initial deposit and final payment, but if needed we broke it down even further for small payments in between.

By the time it was all said and done, we had enough credit card points that it paid for 100% of our honeymoon flights!! BTW for anyone considering getting a new credit card...looking for a good travel card that has a high point/mile sign up bonus is also perfect during wedding planning...just make sure it's a card you actually want after the wedding too lol

We're making monthly payments to our vendors, for our reception, so that everyone will paid off a couple months ahead of time. We have already paid off our Jamaica wedding/honeymoon. We did monthly payments on that as well. We didn't want to completely overwhelm ourselves

I started planning in a spreadsheet how much everything would cost (with large margins of error) and how much the honeymoon would cost. Most of our things are due within a week of the wedding, so we cut the estimate in half and I have been putting aside a chunk every month. I moved around non-essential payments (certain savings funds, etc.) and I've been more mindful of little spending.

Too late for me to do that. I started with 250 and then realized it wasn’t getting me anywhere haha

Yassss!!! We already have one plane ticket paid for and half of the other and that’s to Maldives! Waited until the card was offering 65,000 bonus points for joining.

Our honeymoon would’ve been paid for but we just tacked on another week in another country (booked this past weekend). We are going big on the wedding so why not the honeymoon right haha.

Being mindful of little spending! That’s a big one. We had to realize we were spending way too much on eating out even though we would still go grocery shopping. Limiting that has helped us so much!

We both picked up more hours at work and I got a part time job (which I actually plan on keeping after the wedding as it's been super fun and I've made friends). We have also both shared expenses which are wedding related. I'm planning on paying off our florist and HMUA with my Tax return, then I will be putting money aside to cover pop up expenses. We have used rewards credit cards for some of the things (air bnb) but were sure to get them paid off in a reasonable amount of time. We have had help from both of our sets of parents with things also which has been a huge blessing.

My tax return will be going directly to the wedding also. We make sure to pay off our credit card before the end of each billing cycle. The interest on these cards are crazy and not worth the points if you are having to pay it. Our parents are helping also thank goodness. Awesome that you enjoy your part time!
