How important/necessary is décor?

OGSue, on April 15, 2016 at 10:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I'm having my reception in an old Inn, where for the most part is already decorated (not overly fancy though) and when I try to think of decorations I don't know if there is a lot I can incorporate - I will be adding some personal touches but not a lot.

Would this be weird?

Did you/Are you decorating your venue a lot? Did you find having a big personal touch added to the overall feel of your wedding?

I'm in a similar boat. I'm getting married at an old historic hotel, which has plenty of decor itself. I am thinking simple is better. I have a few gold frames with our engagement photos and gold votive holders for our cocktail hour and for our wedding we will have a table with family wedding photos out, a guest book and a few signs. Other than that, Im holding off on a lot of decor because the venue is so beautiful itself.

Hi Sue! No additional decorating here. We are in a hotel that's decorated. I don't think anyone will notice if we do anything beyond our centerpieces, dj lights and food! I'm not stressing about it either. I really want to enjoy the day and the time leading up to the wedding. So to me, it's not a big deal.

I know to some people there is a high bar set due to Pinterest and people posting pics on IG. Heck some people enjoy the creative process and time spent with friends doing it. So it's up to you and FH is its important to you then go for it. Otherwise I'm sure the room is beautiful on its own.

Do you have a picture of it? We added personal touches around the venue but it's definitely not necessary if your venue is already decorated. Saves money for sure to not have to add additional decor.

The only decor I'm adding is the centerpieces.

My ceremony is at the same location as my reception, so I am actually planning to decorate more for the ceremony and not do much for the reception. If you like the look of the venue, you definitely don't need to add more decor.

That's pretty much all the décor I am doing too - centerpieces (which are board games) which will be in a separate area of the reception venue compared to the dining area, chalkboard signs, seating chart, guest "book" (Jenga blocks), and a card box.

    Here are some pics:

Pic 1 Ceremony area - still don't know what to do with the space, might put some tulle around the awing but not sure ...

Pic 2 Dining Area (but set up for a ceremony)

Pic 3: the outside of the venue

Annnnnd that's all the pictures I can find that would give anyone any idea of what the darn place looks like.

Décor can be a great touch. But it is by no means a necessity. Smiley laugh

Personally we are having very minimal décor. Fresh flowers in vases for the tables. An aspen tree & ribbon archway for the ceremony space. Fresh flowers for the cake. & some banners for the smore's bar table.

Same here, the only decor we did ourselves was the centerpieces.

Our venue is a huge gorgeous ballroom. It's very simple, which is kinda how I want it anyway. We aren't doing any decorating other than some glass centerpieces in our wedding colors. Its easy, simple and beautiful. Also, what ever makes it easier on you! Less Stress is best!

I'm not doing much at all. Our venue is a covered patio in the woods. There's a roof but the sides are open and you get a wonderful view of the trees. I'm keeping everything very simple so that the nature becomes the decor.

Plus it's fewer things to have to buy which is always nice.

We are doing just table cloths, runners and centerpeices and the food tables will be decorated. Not really adding "decor".

Your venue is lovely! I don't think you need to worry about doing much outside of what you're already planning. Are venue is similar in that it's already decorated for the most part. So, we are just doing centerpieces.

Gorgeous venue!! There's definitely no need to add a ton of decor if you don't want to! I swear having a gorgeous venue does 75% of the work, because you don't have to do much for it to look amazing

If we'd gone with a historic mansion, we wouldn't have added much either! Do consider the ceremony space, since you'll have so many important photos in front of it.

Lovely venue. If you want to add tulle or something to the awning to make it stand out a little more that is fine. I would only do centerpieces for the reception area.

I think it's fine to not decorate the venue. I loved the gold and mirrors that my venue had so the only décor I brought was a flowered archway and two flower planers that were used for the ceremony and then behind the head table.

Personally I think it's better to not decorate. Then the people become the colour and décor in your room. No personal touches needed.
