How important is makeup?

Hannah, on October 7, 2019 at 4:19 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 6

So I booked my hair stylist a couple weeks ago. Her rate was $175 (including trial) and a $75 travel fee. It felt really expensive, but my hair is very important to me and my fiance said that it made no sense to spend tons of money on everything else and not spend money to make sure I felt beautiful. So once I got over the initial sticker shock, I feel it's totally worth it to spend $250 on hair. Makeup though, I'm unsure about. I have two different quotes and I'm struggling to choose. The first girl is a local girl I went to school with. She's done several weddings around my area and is good. Her work is definitely better than I can do, but it's definitely not magazine perfect. Her price is $45 (including the travel). She doesn't include a trial in that price but I could probably add one on for cheap. The second girl is a professional artist that specializes in weddings. Her work is amazing, and she can create just about any look I would want. I'm definitely more confident in her contouring abilities and her stuff is like something out of a magazine. Her price is $180 (including trial) and a $75 travel fee. Now, I am usually very much a "you get what you pay for" person, which is why I went with a more expensive hair person. But now I'm trying to decide if makeup matters enough to pay 5 times more for it to be perfect. On the one hand, as long as my face looks good, I don't know if I care if it looks like something out of a magazine. As long as it photographs well. And it would be nice to cut some cost there since I'm spending so much on hair. On the other hand, I would love to be totally magazine pretty for a day. Do you think it's worth it? What's your opinion on the situation? One minute I'm leaning towards the first girl, the next I'm leaning towards the second. I can't decide, and I really need to get one of them booked within the next couple days.

If you like the work that the cheaper makeup artist has done, I would choose her. Since you know her personally, you could do a trial now if you really wanted to since it's so cheap and if it turns out terrible you can go to the more expensive one.

Her work doesn't blow me away. It's better than what i can do, but not like show stopping. That's a good idea though! I could just give her a chance and see if I like it.

I wouldn’t go cheap on makeup and I'd deff do a trial before booking anyone. Promise a trial and booking a good, professional artist is worth it. Just think, you'll look like that in all your wedding pictures. I've had some baddd trials before and then went with an artist who charged $85 ( which is still a good price for makeup ). & the hair price is good since it includes a trial!

So the more expensive artist definitely did a much better job in your opinion?

I did a $100 trial which was horrible and an $85 trial that I chose. She has upped her price since which she should have a long time ago because she is really good!

I guess I mean by going cheap is don't just hire a friend or a friend of a friend that " does makeup" , just make sure you hire a professional and do a trial! Will be all worth it.

Oh I gotcha! That's pretty much what the first girl is. Just a girl that does makeup. Honestly, I think the fact that I'm not super comfortable with it and not blown away is probably my answer right there. Lol. I'm just so tired of spending money on everything. But I also know that I will never get my makeup professionally done again, so I might as well do it right. Thanks so much for the input!
