How He Proposed

Kylee, on November 5, 2016 at 1:50 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 33

I always loved hearing proposal stories before I was engaged, and now I love telling mine! My FH and I were celebrating our one year anniversary of dating. He told me he convinced a close friend of mine (now my BM), who is a photographer, to do an anniversary photoshoot. Completely clueless, we drove to the mall and bought a brand new outfit for both of us. After heading home and getting ready, we drove out to the beach for the shoot at sunset. We did a few different sitting poses before my BM told us to stand with the sunset behind us. Minutes later, my FH starts saying romantic things to me like "you've made my life complete" and "you're smart, beautiful, etc." I awkwardly shushed him because I didn't want to make my friend uncomfortable about being the third wheel *face palm.* Once I heard, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you" I realized what was going on. He got down on one knee and I was so shocked I couldn't even say "yes," only squeal.

How did your FH propose?

We were eating dinner at Texas road house, and he took a peanut out of the bucket thing on the table. Got down on one knee and proposed with a PEANUT! ...I was like... " I'm duh, I'll marry you!" (Because I had been making a few hints here and there)

When we got home he had the ring... (apparently he forgot to bring it to dinner, so he used the peanut! Haha)

    I still have my peanut

My FH surprised while I was visiting my brother who lived in Germany. I had been gone 2 months and we had a road trip to Italy planned. Well, when my brother went to pick up the rental car he apparently picked up my FH at the airport. They brought me outside to look at the car and he was in the trunk. Lol. 2 days later he proposed in Venice, Italy.

FMIL is a photographer and she asked for my help on an engagement shoot at a beach. For some reason FH decided to tag along. While we were "waiting for the couple to arrive", FH asked his mom to take a couple of pictures of us and that's when he proposed. After my shock had settled he pointed behind me and my parents had been hiding behind some rocks and got to see the whole thing... he did an amazing job.

For our anniversary we decided to take a weekend away for a staycation. We decided to splurge and went to a very nice hotel. The hotel upgraded us to a suite with a balcony overlooking the mountains and lake. I had worked the night before so I laid down to take a nap, just as I was about to fall asleep FH woke me up. I was a little miffed but went to the balcony and he was on his knee, professed his love and gave me a ring. There was no sleeping after that.

We are huge disney fans and probably go once every 2 months. I always said I wanted to be proposed to in Disneyland, but after every trip I was a little disappointed it didn't happen. We went in September for my nieces birthday, my FH best friend tagged along so I was convinced it deff wasn't happening (I was making little side comments the whole trip about never being engaged). My mom kept bothering us all to take a group photo in front of the castle, finally my brother is law said "let's take this damn photo so she shuts up". After taking the group photo FH asked me to take one by ourselves, where he proposed. The first thing I said was "omg I'm such an ass" and then yes of course haha

Michael proposed to me on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at one of my favorite parks, The High Line in Chelsea. We had been out and about in the city doing what we normally do on any given Saturday: having brunch.

I remember, we went to a restaurant that I had been dying to go to and I was so excited about it. On this particular day, we were also at Sephora buying Christmas gifts. Michael and I decided to take a stroll at The High Line after we were done shopping.

It was cold and windy and the park was crowded. I remember Michael asking me to find my favorite spot in the park so we can take some pictures together. Unfortunately, when I got to my favorite spot, I realized that construction was blocking the view. Michael encouraged me to find my 2nd favorite spot in the park.

The whole time we were walking, Michael kept telling me to "go ahead, I'll follow". The next thing I know, he was on one knee asking me to marry him.

Oh and there was a photographer who came out of nowhere!

We celebrated at our favorite restaurant.

FH and I had been talking about marriage for months. We were at my moh house getting ready for a night on the town. Once every one was in one room. I got on my knees at popped the question with a ring. And he said yes. We all went out and celebrated.

My FH decided to play the hot and cold trick with me. He had hidden the ring in the living room and told me that he brought home a surprise. It took me 20 minutes to find it, and when I did, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We both are silly so I love the way he did it. But after 10 minutes I did start getting frustrated lol.

LOL!!!! Awwww, this is such a cute story! Mine convinced me he wanted family pictures once his son came into town. We have 5 kids between the both of us. I was so frustrated between getting myself and all the kids ready and I ran into some major traffic. I felt so bad because I was running 30 minutes late to our appointment time. He met us there. He kept telling me the lady said it was fine if I was late and to just drive safely. He bought a white board to write cute sayings. The last one he wrote he wouldn't show anybody. Our photographer just told everybody to make a silly face for the pic. Then she invited me to come look at her lens to see how nice that particular picture came out. When she zoomed in I had to do a double take to read the write board. It said "Will you marry me?" I turned to look at him already crying and there he was on one knee :-)

I love reading these stories. From the super involved to the very simple, it's so nice to see so much love!

My FH and I had been together for years, before which we were best friends. We have a (at the time 1.5 year old) and had pushed off engagement and a wedding when we found out we were pregnant, because of time and money constraints. We actually had started planning our wedding already with no real proposal, which was fine with me because we were not really traditional. But I guess he really wanted to do that for me!

We went out for dinner for what I thought was his birthday dinner date, our first night out in 5 months. We went to a really nice restaurant on the canal nearby where we live that we'd been wanting to go to for months (the food was incredible). During dinner there was another couple who got engaged and a bachelorette party, my poor, for some reason nervous, FH was trying desperately to get me to not pay attention to them so I wouldn't suspect anything. After dinner, we went for a short walk on the canal and decided to stop and sit on a little wooden ramp down to the water off the path. We just sat there talking and enjoying the summer night and he goes "oh and I wanted to ask you something" he pulled the ring out of his pocket and said "will you be my best friend forever?" I was so embarrassed at the attention and flustered that I don't even know what I said (I think it was along the lives of "of course!"). After that we sat there watching the water and the walkers, cuddled up with each other. It was really simple and not at all extravagant, but it was so perfect for us.

He told pretty much everyone except for me that he was going to purpose. He got my mom, step dad and best friend (who loves taking photos and is really good at it!) To go up on the parkway with them. With mom as the tour guide (we were back in my hometown) we found a pretty spot and he got down on one knee and asked!'

Or "how she proposed" right? Plenty of lesbian couples on here, and straight couples where the woman proposed. I did.

    These are great stories!!

FH and I were at Maui for a vacation/friends wedding that I was in. Before the trip FH kept dropping hints and talking to all of our friends (later found out he went ring shopping with my friends!), so I had been thinking he'd propose while in Maui. My friends wedding was at the end of the week so I was expecting that if he was going to propose it would be sometime then. Day of her wedding comes (which was beautiful!) and I'm think that I was wrong and he's not going to propose.

The next day FH kept making this big deal about going to this ocean center that has a tunnel under the water. My friend and her new husband came with. When we got to the tunnel, I was checking it out while the 3 of them were talking. We go into the tunnel and FH says that we should take a picture and my friend and her husband both have cameras and I didn't know which to look at! FH then told me he has a question for me and that's when I knew! He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!! I said yes and ended up knocking the ring on the ground. Right after that, a HUGE stingray swims overhead!

Turns out my friend and her husband recorded and took pictures! Ended up being perfect and a surprise Smiley smile

For our fifth year dating anniversary we went to cancun. I was so sure he was going to proposed. Apparently so did my mother and both of his parents. They even went out to get champagne! Well it didn't happen then. We returned the following year for our sixth year anniversary. At this point I gave up and finially came to the conclusion we were just going to be dating forever. On our fourth day in Cancun we went down to sit by the pool. After a few minutes he said he forgot his hat and didn't want anymore sunburn on his head. I asked him if he wanted me to come and he said no, just keep reading your book. Eventually he came back with his hat and we spent the day by the pool. At one point he asked me to go back to the room early so we can get ready and have an early dinner. He wanted to go back at 330 and I told him no. Eventually I gave in and we went upstairs to our hotel room. When I walked in there was rose pedals on the bed, a chocolate fondue station and a bottle of champagne. In front of the bed, he got down on one knee and told me "I'm sorry I waited so long to do this. And I'm sorry I don't have a ring. But I love you and want to spend forever with you. When we get back home I have a ring. But here's a seashell. Will you marry me?" I cried so hard it was so hard to say yes.

My birthday was in September so we went to Disney World for the weekend to celebrate. Spent a whole day in Magic Kingdom. We had dinner at Cinderellas Royal Table to celebrate my birthday.

After dinner we were on the side of the castle where it's really quiet and no one was around. It was at night so I was admiring the castle since it was all lit up. He started fishing around in his pocket and I just assumed he left his phone back at the restaurant. Well when I turned around he had a ring in his hand and he was asking me would I marry him. I was in complete shock and didn't say anything for a couple of seconds. When I finally registered what happened I yelled "OMG yes!" This group of people walked by and I yelled at them and was like "I just got engaged!" After that we went to one of the photo pass people and got a photo together infront of the castle. We finished the night by watching the electrical parade.

I proposed to my future wife.

We knew that our end goal was marriage and we talked about our future a lot. Around February we started seriously discussing getting engaged. We began looking at rings. Because our relationship is non-traditional as it is, we decide that we would mutually ask each other on our fourth anniversary in September while on vacation. I had other plans though. I got her ring early (which she knew), and proposed on a random Tuesday after work in our one bedroom apartment. I wasn't even wearing pants. But it was still perfect.

Our was a funny one!! Did not go the way he wanted..

He decided he would propose on Christmas eve, with all our family. His side and my side as we were celebrating our first Christmas with our 2 Month old son. Well he put the box in a tin with a small bow. He gave me my gift as we passed out the rest. As everyone opened theirs, I started to open mine, as he said arent you going to open yours.. I had my gifts off to the side.. so I went to go get them, grabbed his first since he said he wanted me to open it first. So I take the box out thinking oh man, maybe he finally got me a pair of diamond earrings. Been wanting some.. lol anyway, he barely made it to me as I opened the box.. big shock for me!!! Was a beautiful solitaire ring.. he remembered. And he just says Well??? I said yeah of coarse I will.. his response You Better!!

He tells me later when everyone went home and we head off to bed, that didn't go as planned.. lol but thats us!!!

My FH and I have been together for 18 years. He has been married before and has always said he would never do it again - long tortuous story of first wife (I have never been married). A year ago, I told him I would only bring this up once and spent 15 minutes explaining why getting married was important to me. I told him I would not bring it up again and I would not hold the whole marriage thing against him but I wanted him to know my feelings. One year later he was brushing his teeth, I was unpacking a suitcase and he said he had some goals for next year - I asked what goals? He said to get a different job and "take care that wedding thing you want." He had to say it six times as I kept thinking I didn't hear him correctly.

You would think based on the anti-marriage history he would be standoffish about the planning but he is "100% in" (his words) going to venue visits, bridal shows and having a great time.

I told him we needed to come up with some good proposal story since people will ask. He said "I thought brushing my teeth was great - you didn't expect it. I wanted it to be out of left field." Well, he accomplished that!
