How far is too Far?

Rhiannon, on December 7, 2019 at 11:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
How far is too far for a wedding venue? I found an amazing venue at an amazing price... but it’s an hour and a half away? Should I put it on the no list?

I don’t think it’s too far! I am getting married just over an hour away- we actually did that intentionally because I wanted it small and making it kind of a destination wedding helped us not feel like it’s ok not to invite everyone. I will say we’ve had some rsvp no because of the distance- but we expected that and really meant it when we said it wouldn’t hurt our feelings if they couldn’t make the trip. If you will be ok with the same, I say go for it!

People have destination weddings tens of thousands of miles from home. There’s no such thing as “too far” as long as you understand that may mean that some guests can’t attend.

I don’t think so!! Our wedding is two and half hours from some of our guest.

Might be ok if there are affordable hotels nearby. I know my hubby wouldn’t want to go to a wedding 60+ minutes away, or we’d leave probably right after dinner (and not drink or dance). Unless we knew other guests then might get a hotel and stay the entire time. I don’t think older guests, single guests or couples with kids would do that though.

It is okay to have your venue an hour and a half away. I have family coming out from another state to attend my wedding. So you should go for it.

Just make sure you let guests know what hotels are in the area! and maybe look into a bus service to take guests who have been drinking to their hotel at the end of the night.

I think that's fine if you block 2-3 hotels nearby for guests.

I agree with some PPs, as long as there are affordable hotels nearby, I would definitely attend a wedding 1.5 hours away!

An hour and a half from where? Where you live or where your ceremony is? If it's an hour and a half where you live I think that's totally fine! Our venue is that distance from usSmiley smile Just make sure the ceremony is also in that area.

Your traveling time for your guests is good. Some of my guests will be traveling at least an hour and I have guests who are traveling out of state (North Carolina) so your time is good. Just make sure that hotels are around.
