Hi all,

how far is too far to ask guests to drive between the ceremony location and reception location? is 40mins too far/long if we're giving them several hours to do that?

we're having issues with our original church location (long story) and are deciding to get married in our church (instead of his childhood church that his parents were also married in) but it would make it 40mins (instead of 20mins) between the church and reception location.

thoughts? as a guest i would do it and have driven 30mins before for a wedding between ceremony/reception...just not sure how that'll be received by our guests.

Thank you all for your continued feedback.

we had thought of giving ourselves at least 2hrs for pictures as photography is big for us. friends of ours have always complained that they didn't give themselves enough time for pictures (no matter how organized they were) and those who gave themselves 3.5hrs were happy they made that decision. 3.5 is too long (IMO).

our friends tend to go for a bite to eat/drinks between ceremony & reception (as a late lunch). FH's family go home to change (cultural thing) for the reception. mine aren't local and will be with us (BP).

FH and i are discussing venues tonight and may go with the closer option (nothing is booked yet). i would definitely consider getting a shuttle as those without vehicles would have problems getting to and from the venues. i definitely don't want to inconvenience anyone...just wish the original church idea would've worked out and then none of this would've been an issue as the fave venue is closer.

    thanks again!

I don't think it's too far. Just make sure that if you have a wedding website you put on there the locations and that it is a bit of a drive. If you have a big gap between the wedding and reception, perhaps let people know this and suggest that they stop at some locations (like an ice cream parlor or restaurant or mini golf or something fun) during the gap, or use that time to check into their hotel for OOT guests.
