How far in advance should you book your officiant?

The guy that will be marrying us is very busy. I don't want to ask him to commit too far in advance that it will potentially interfere with his work opportunities. But i also don't want to wait too late and he is busy. How far in advance should the officiant commit to your ceremony?

Still wondering how old this person is...probably too young and not mature enough to marry based on this post and thread. Just my unpopular opinion.

Book an actual officiant if you want your marriage to actually be legal. Had a contract. Do it asap. I don't understand what the issue is? Not that hard.

@Erika that's an opinion that's not so unpopular.

As soon as you book your venue and get your date.. book your officiant because you want to make sure they are available.
