How far in advance should i give a bridal proposal gift to ask my friends if they'd be in my bridal party?

Nicola, on June 23, 2020 at 5:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

My fiance and I have decided to wed in May 2022. However, majority of the girls, well all of them know its a given that I'd want them to be a part of my bridal party. I already know exactly what I'd want to give them but I'm not sure when I should ask them to be a bridesmaid. Any advice?

I would wait until later to ask them, maybe sometime next year would be better. feels kind of early.

Thanks! That seems like a fair amount of time.

It's normally done about a year out. This gives you enough time to spread things out and gives them time to keep up with the financial side of it, but isn't so early that it seems drawn out.

Of course; happy to help! Do you know what you're using as proposal gifts yet, if you don't mind my asking?

8 months to at most a year out. Close enough so you have a definite place and date. And they have a clue what they are doing for jobs, school or grad school, pregnancy, family members closer to them getting married close to the same time, and other possible conflicts. It is best when no one has to drop out after saying yes. And people stay interested more at 4 months or less. BM dresses come in 2-10 weeks after ordering, so no need to order them until 4 months out. So close to wedding that they will not change weight, or get pregnant, and need several hundred dollars in alterations to a dress that cost $150-250 to begin with. There is nothing a BM or MOH must do before 6 months out, that any friend could not do.

I asked my girl's right away, 19 months out after we got engaged. I know that's early according to these forums, but I had 9 bridesmaids in 5 states and I had zero drama the entire engagement. I would do it the same way if I did it again!
