How far in advance should I book a band and a photographer?

Amanda, on July 3, 2014 at 4:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi everyone! We just took the first important step and nailed down a date and a venue for our September 2015 wedding. Music is really important to us (me especially) and I know I've always wanted a band, if we could afford one. We have $4000 saved so far and the band we're looking at is quoting us at close to $3000. They are available on our date, I checked. I'm going to check them out in person later this month. So my question is, how far in advance should I book them if we decide to go with them? At the same time, we need to find a photographer, and I'm not sure how far in advance I need to hire one.

If you have your date nailed down with your venue(s) and officiant, it's not too early to contact vendors who interest you (band or DJ, photographer, caterer - if needed).

I agree with Nancy, the earlier the better. Especially if there's someone you really want already in mind. I took care of all the major vendors before I did anything else. It was a huge weight off of my shoulders!

    Sooner the better! Smiley smile

If you have a band you love, book them now. why wait?

Make sure to see them play live first though or at least hear a CD. I'm having a band too - can't wait! When booking your other vendors, I think 8 to 10 months out is pretty good.

Thanks everyone! They are playing a showcase near us on July 23 so I will probably wait until the end of the month to book...hopefully they'll still be available! We re getting married on a Sunday, which might help things

In my area, September is a prime wedding month and books up quickly. So, I would recommend at least booking every vendor you can as early as possible. You can then spread out the actual planning with them to remove as much stress as you can from yourself. I can't tell you of the couples we have had to turn away because they waited too late to try to book us, we feel horrible for them but can't do but so many weddings in a day.

I agree on September booking quickly. When I went to book my venue for my September 20th 2014 wedding in December one of the hotels only had a teeny room left... and since then 2 more weddings at least have been announced for the area on our date!
