How early to purchase soda....

bridezilla48, on May 18, 2014 at 3:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

My FH and I are buying in advance the most we can.... Our wedding is Oct 18 2014 and we want to purchase soda already but does soda go flat? Or how in advance can we purchase the sodas? I would hate to serve nasty tasting soda... Advice?

Yes, it goes flat. Save that type of stuff for the end.

Soda will generally have a "best before" date stamped on the bottom of the can, and it's usually a year from when you buy it, you will be perfectly fine now buying cans of soda for October, just keep them room temperature. The same does NOT go for the plastic bottles.

I just bought my soda a few days ago. I scouted the papers for a 10/10 sale and then POUNCED. I bought it a few days ago and my wedding is this Saturday. I did that because I did not want to risk it going flat. you could probably call the company of the soda you would like to purchase and ask them about it.

I would save it for a week or so before. My friend bought soda for her wedding months ahead of time, kept them in her house which tends to get pretty warm and the soda went flat

I think pop stays good for awhile. I was going to start buying in june. I am not buying cans. I think you get a better deal with 2 liters. I may even do the 3 liters that some stores have, generic pop.

Not only can it go flat but there is a little issue with the artificial sweetener changing over time. Regular soda will last longer than diet soda. And diet soda with bitter "sweetener" is not good.

You'll be fine within a week or two (provided they are stored in a cool area) but I would not buy them now.

I would wait. Around here at least, they have sales that cycle every month or so all summer--there would be a week of good sales, a week of better sales, a clear-everything-off-the-shelves sale, then back to the normal to start over. If you watch the cycle, you should be able to get an amazing deal within a few weeks of your wedding (if stores are similar there).

We are putting the money aside for what we anticipate to spend on soda and just buying it a week or two prior. I think as long as it is properly stored (temp/light/etc) and it's not close to expiration, you will be alright. It sits on the shelves at the store and in the warehouse for a while, so just make sure to check your dates.

Thank you all for your awesome feedback.... Thanks Jessica I will copy your idea Smiley winking and set the money aside to buy 2 weeks before... I'm a fan of soda so I def don't want anything wrong with the soda we will serve Smiley smile ... 2liters is the way to go except our venue doesn't allow us to serve them Smiley sad can soda only.... Meanwhile we will be on the sale watch and hopefully we get a good deal around our time to buy.

Definitely check the expiration date on the cans/bottles. Soda does go bad and when it does it tastes nasty! You may have better luck waiting until Labor Day sales, which is closer to your wedding date.
