How Early to Hire Makeup Artist?

Grace, on November 7, 2017 at 2:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

So I'm from Seattle and will be having my wedding in Phoenix, AZ in June. How early should I find/book a makeup artist? Honestly, I am a bit worried that I won't even like the way it turns out and with the cost of paying for a trial, it seems a lot. I'm asian and found that a lot of makeup artists just don't really know how to do the eyes without making it very cat eyed.

I am wanting to have my bridesmaids makeup done as well but with a morning wedding, is it faux pas to hire two different makeup artists?

I hired a Phoenix/Scottsdale-based MUA for my Tucson wedding (we live in Phoenix but are doing an OOT wedding). I started looking about 12 months in advance, but didn't book until probably September? Keep in mind, my original artist I thought I was going to book got booked by someone else while I was being indecisive. Luckily I found an amazing one anyway even though I cut it close - I would say it's never too early once you know who you want.

A lot of these vendors will send the appropriate number of artists based on your party for hair and/or makeup. I would ask and see what their policy/procedure is based on how many people you have. My vendor does both, but I did have a friend hire hair and makeup artists separately.

I'd say start looking now. My first choice MUA was booked a year and a half out from my date. I was shocked, figured that would be a vendor I could book closer to the date of the wedding.

I'd start looking now! Rachel T makeup in Phoenix is great. I love her, she microbladed my eyebrows. Do you have an Instagram? If you do I can message you a few people I follow that do Makeup in the area.

I ended up not having an MUA, but I did really like Amanda Victoria Beauty, she's based in Goodyear. She was booked for my original date, 18 months in advance. I would look now. The only downside with her is, your trial is included, but you need to put down the deposit first.

I booked last month for an April wedding. Personally, I think if you find someone you really want, don't wait. Someone else might book them first! There are a limited number of HMUA in my area (that wouln't require a 4 a.m. start time just because of travel- 30 minutes away there are a ton, but not really practical for my venue location) so as soon as I found someone I wanted, I booked her.

I'm getting married in Charlottesville, va and booked mine 14 months ahead of time. Many were booked for my date when I was inquiring in July 2017, so I knew I had to jump quickly. I did my research, and I'm happy with who I chose. We spoke on the phone, I read reviews and accolades, and am happy with my choice. It's never too early to book in my eyes.

I'm going in for a trial in a week and booking after that. I think it's never too early! Though I understand what you mean about the costs adding up once you add in a trial.

I'm also asian and was concerned about makeup, but browsed the Instagram pages of potential MUA to make sure they could do makeup on my eye shape before scheduling a trial!

I am so glad you asked this OP! This is certainly a vendor I thought would only need to be hired a few months before!

Sorry this is so late responding to you, but I booked On Location Bridal by Judy Hayward. She's great and does hair and makeup.
