How early is too early

Sam, on July 23, 2019 at 8:03 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
My daughters wedding is over a year and half away. I was thinking if we could do stuff early like flowers etc we would have more time to pay and possibly make things nicer. Did anyone get things done well in advance?

I started making our signage and stuff about 8 months out. They were small enough that storing them wasnt an issue and it was less to stress about as we got closer. I think it's fine to start DIYs early if you have the storage abilities.

I did a bunch of DIY things as early as a year ahead. Once we had the date and venue locked down, and had decided on colors, I started making things. I'm handmaking all our flowers out of crepe paper, so I needed the extra time haha. I think as long as you're set on colors/theme, and you have the space to store things, go ahead and start!

I ordered our flowers about a year out. I don't think it's ever a bad idea to start looking and booking. It gives you more time to pay off the vendors.

    Hi Sam,

I got engaged on Dec. 22,2018. We started looking and booked our venue by mid January. (We rushed slightly because they had a 50% off deal that was ending soon at my dream venue)

That venue included, DOC and catering. So that is done.

I started getting quotes right away so I can work on a budget, and it helped me start narrowing down whom I wanted to book and how much deposits were going to be. I just picked out all my linens and tables settings this past weekend. I have a tasting scheduled for November.

Our goal, (my parents are splitting wedding costs with us) is to have the wedding close to paid off by the end of the year. At least a big chunk of it. And, to be honest, its been a good feeling to start knocking thing out. I say whatever you can get done early, go ahead and do.

I just started on my center pieces last night. I know I'm way early but we have a crazy schedule and I just don't want to be stressed the closer we get.

I'm more than a year out and some vendors won't even book me until it's a year so you can try but you might be told to come back later. I'd focus on major stuff like catering and venue and do the rest later

I made my stuff 18 months out bc I had to move across the country and leave it at my parents house. I think as long as you have the venue booked and are sure about the color scheme it’s fine.

I've been engaged since July 2018 and started working on things pretty much right away. The time goes by really quickly, and I'm honestly glad I started as early as I did. We're doing a lot of DIYs and now my last three months of wedding planning are a lot less stressful because they're all done. I can focus on the meetings with vendors and dress appointments and hair trials without needing to factor in time for crafts. Also, for items you're buying it gives you plenty of time to scour sales! I didn't pay full price for ANYTHING, except our DJ. Tablecloths 60% off, photography 20% off, venue 20% off, catering 20% off. I think starting early will only benefit you!
