How early is too early????

Breanna, on February 24, 2020 at 9:19 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

I am getting married in 2 years and 2 months (June of 2022). I know it is early for most things but since I am a full time college student, with no time to plan except breaks, I need to plan now. I will be graduating 6 months before my wedding date which is june of 2022 (I dont have a venue booked yet so no exact date). I need to know what I can do on my school breaks so I can ease some stress off myself next year when the real planning begins. I already have venue tours booked and plan to book this summer, I am meeting with a DJ who books way out because of popularity, and I am pinning stuff and going to expos. I just need to know what else I can be doing on spring breaks, or summer breaks, or just weeks that I have off?! Or am I doing everything I can do already???? Thank you in advance!!!!

As far as vendors, I agree that it's not too early to start looking now. The only things that I think are more time sensitive are selecting your wedding party and dress shopping.

Photographers and Videographers (if you want them) are also booked quite early so that's something you can look into, as well as catering. I also started planning while in college and waaay ahead of time and that's what I started with (next to venue obviously).

First thing you want to do is book the venue because venue dates book up faster than any vendor.

    Congratulations Breanna,
As the other girls have said, it's never to early to book your venue and photographer as they are typically booked 2 years out, also try and estimate your budget, 26 months away, that's difficult, but it will help determine how many people you can invite. If your having a videographer, you would want to secure that person now as well, keep in mind that if you happen to pick a large hotel or wedding center they are likely to have packages offering all of the above services. My favorite part of wedding planning was dress shopping, I love showing my dress and bridesmaids dress!!!! Good luck! How early is too early???? 1

My FH and I got engaged Dec 2018 and our wedding is this October, so a 22 month engagement. We knew we wanted an October wedding and that's a SUPER popular month where we live, so we knew we'd have to have a long engagement. (Plus, I'm a stressed out planning freak, so I wanted more time!!)

The very first thing you absolutely have to do before anything else is book your venue. You can keep your eye on other vendors in the mean time, but you don't have an official date until your venue contract is signed. Most other vendors won't sign with you until you have the date locked in. After the venue, you should be getting your photographer, DJ, and videographer (if applicable) in pretty quick succession. Those three vendors pretty much always are happy to sign contracts more than a year in advance, even up to two years for popular dates, which June typically is.

If I were you, I'd focus all of my energy on finding my venue right now. Once you've got that at least narrowed down with tour dates on the calendar, maybe spend some time finding vendors in other categories that you like, so you can have them on tap to reach out to as soon as your venue is locked down. A photographer/DJ/videographer that you really vibe with and trust will be able to give you other vendor recommendations for florists, dress shops, etc. I'm using almost exclusively all vendors on my venue's recommended list because I know they've all worked there a lot and are familiar with the space.

Biggest piece of advice? BREATHE! Smiley smile Smiley heart

I dont think its too early! Im getting married in September 2021 and got engaged September 2019. I already have the venue (comes with catering and bar), dj, photographer and my dress. Vendors were already booked for our date so i think the sooner the better!
