How early is too early to try on wedding dresses?

Jasmine, on May 17, 2017 at 3:10 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I'm not going to lie, I am completely aware I am jumping the gun on everything.... I made my wedding party list the week I got engaged. I need guidance! Lol

OK, Jasmine, slow your roll! Congrats on your engagement! Firstly the wedding party should not be asked until about 6-8 months before the wedding. You'll save yourself a world of hurt that way. Start now with budget. Figure out your budget and what'll you'll be able to afford two years from now. That will determine how many guests you can afford to have and the type of venue that will be realistic.

Luckily these girls have already been in my life for 10+ years lol. And are already to be involved in every aspect of bride related decisions. Our budget is expendable to say the least

It's more of realism. My dress budget is 3,000. Lol I couldn't imagine spending more on a dress. Also the venue is mostly narrowed down. Certain circumstances are forcing us to wait the 2 years.

I agree with Jacks on working on your budget first. I already asked my bridal party for various reasons and I'm glad I did but your wedding is even farther away than mine. As far as wedding dresses you can start looking and see what styles you like. I won't be trying anything on until next year because a lot can change with our bodies.

Yeah I agree with looking but not wedging into dresses yet. I just have no idea how long the length of time of having the dress perfect takes. And the fiance keeps joking about just getting married sooner. I'm a Virgo lol so I'm a preplanner. But hey that's what this app is suppose to be for right lol

In the U.S. standard time for ordering/altering a dress is 6 months, but it can be done quicker. I am currently overseas and had a custom dress made in under a month and the dressmaker couldn't understand why I didn't want it sooner.

I actually had a dear friend who bought a wedding dress BEFORE she was even dating someone...

With that being said, I echo PPs in suggesting you wait a little while before buying a dress. If you start too early you may wind up finding something you like even better later or you could even change your mind completely on the style of the wedding you'd like to have.

I'm only going to touch on the dress - I would go no more than a year out TBH - Dress regret is so real and styles change so much

It's okay to browse online now to get a feel for what you like, but like PPs have said, wait until summer next year to start actually shopping for your dress. I'm starting my dress hunt in a couple of weeks for my May 2018 wedding.

You can try dresses whenever you want. Just dont order it until around 6-8 months out. I already found my dress, I just haven't ordered it

This is such a helpful thread. My wedding date is set 2.5 years from now (10/2021).
My Daughter took me to a wedding show a few weeks ago and I teared up at a specific gown I saw on the runway fashion show.... I'm NOT an emotional person so when I saw that gown, I scheduled an appointment at the gown shop.
I will be trying it on and others in about 6 weeks.

I found it helpful to read that it's okay to try on dresses BUT DON'T ORDER in case something better comes along.
