How early is too early to send wedding invitations?

The general rule of thumb is about 8 weeks. How early would you say is okay to send them, and how late do you think is okay to send them?

I wouldn't send them earlier than 12 weeks or later than 6 weeks out from the wedding. The proper time is considered 6-8 weeks ahead of the event.

Due to having guests traveling internationally for our wedding, we just sent out save the dates for our September 2022 wedding. With COVID and flights being cancelled, we wanted to give people enough notice to book flights and make arrangements. That being said, we are most likely not going to send out invitations because we have all our information on our website. If we send one out it will probably only go to people we know will most likely come-- my FH has a lot of family who already said they don't want to drive out for it (with us even providing transportation-but it is what it is).

If you feel you need to send them further ahead I would. Save the dates is a personal opinion. If you have people you are inviting who have jobs who struggle to request off of have to find child care etc. I would give them plenty of notice. If not the 8 weeks for the invitation I think will be fine.

Thank you for this. Our wedding is essentially a destination wedding as well in October (next year). Fly in an airport and then driving 1.5 hours. I will definitely send out the invites in July. How early did you send the Save the Dates (if you sent one)?

Do not send invites earlier than 6-8 weeks. People will lose and forget the information if you do and they will assume you are B-listing

Save the dates, whether you call everyone as has been done for decades past with no issues, or send magnets, then do not send them later than 6 months. Preferably 10-12 months when you get the venue but make sure your guest list is final because you cannot revoke them.
