How early is too early to send out invites?

Megan, on July 13, 2019 at 9:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
I am having someone hand calligraphy all of my place cards. With that being said, my date is November 10th. I have on the return RSVP to reply by October 1. The woman doing my place cards needs my final seating chart by mid October in order to get it back to me on time. So, when should I send out the invites? Mid September? Is early September too early? It’s a Sunday of a long weekend (Veteran’s Day) so not sure if that matters.

I just sent my invites last week for a Late September wedding.

Did you send out STD's so your guests are already aware that your wedding is on a holiday weekend? If not I would send your invites a little earlier than normal so around 12 weeks just so your guests can plan to not go away that weekend.

Yes, I did send out the STD’s. I was mainly sending them out with a reply of Oct 1 in order for me to finalize seating and for it to be sent to the woman whose doing my placecards. Then she has to mail them all back to me (which will take a week) and I wanted to have them by Nov 1 so I’m prepared. I just didn’t know how early would look too early.

The normal time frame is 6-8 weeks but I believe you can send them anywhere up to 12 weeks out and not be too early especially if your vendors need final numbers and such 1 month in advance.

We sent ours out 12 weeks early because we had some early.deadlines from caterers. I think it would be fine to do up to 12 weeks empty.

Such a good point. Completely forgot about my Vendors. Lol! I’ll send them out probably the first week or so of September. This gives enough time (I have some going overseas!) I had to order them now because of some vacations I’m taking this summer. Was worried I would end up waiting until August and they wouldn’t be here in time. You made me feel less crazy for doing this all early. Lol! 😀

I would do early September since you'd like them to RSVP by October 1.

You could send your overseas ones even earlier, we’ve had stuff take a couple of weeks to get delivered.

We're sending out ours next weekend with an RSVO deadline of October 15th for an early December wedding. Early, I know, but we have our reasons. Over half of our guest list is traveling, I have family members in the military, and some of our vendors are looking for counts in early November.

We sent ours out 3 months in advance, so guests had 6 weeks to respond.
