How early is "too early" to send out invites for July?

wifeytobejuly17, on February 14, 2017 at 2:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I have already ordered invitations for July 1st wedding, (helloooo Vistaprint 50% off WHOO!). Now my question is- how early do i send these out? I did not do save the dates since it would have felt redundant with a short engagement. Any advice is appreciated !

You should send them about 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding - so early to mid May would be the best time. What date did you list as your RSVP date?

6-8 weeks for a non destination wedding

8-10 weeks for a destination wedding

The earliest I would send them out is the first weekend of May!

I have the same question as R&B2016 - what did you have printed as your RSVP by date?

Good question! I'm wondering the same. I don't even have my timeline from my coordinator yet. So I wouldn't know what time to put on the invitation yet.

Oh wow. I actually did not put an RSVP date! CRAP! I however, am including an insert I am going to make that will say "we have reserved ____ seats in your honor", I did put RSVP information (where to RSVP on the back of the invite) I will definitely add the RSVP date by then! any suggestions!? There are very few people traveling out of state because we are traveling home for the wedding instead of home traveling to us.

Okay may seems great- that is PLENTY of time for me to get the rest of the addresses.

6-8 weeks before and make the rsvp date about 2 weeks before your actual numbers are due to the caterer so you have time to call anyone who didnt respond.

You should find out when you need your final count by for catering and give yourself about a week to call people who didn't RSVP

Talk to your caterer and see when you need to get the final number to them. That will give you an idea of what the RSVP date was. We needed to give ours no less than 10 days before.

I've always heard 6-8 weeks for a local wedding and 2-3 months for a destination (depending on how far it is). So for you, the earliest would be a May 1 arrival date (send a day or two before to account for mail time) for a local wedding and April 1 for a far destination wedding (send a day or two before for mail time again).

Our wedding is a semi-DW (1.5 hours for most people, 3 for a third, everyone staying overnight), and I'm leaning towards doing mine 10 weeks before the wedding.

Hmm if I were you, I'd put the RSVP date a bit sooner. Even if the caterer doesn't need the exact number, you can't do the seating chart, those cards to tell people where to sit, update the cake baker, decide on a number of tables/centerpieces, etc. until you know the RSVPs. As long as you give your guests a month to respond, you're fine. I'd put the RSVP date 3 weeks before just to be safe.

ETA: Also, a lot of people probably won't respond and you'll have to call them and track them down. Give yourself a week for that.

Yeah, our RSVP date is about 5 weeks in advance of the wedding, so we can spend a week or so calling late people and still make a seating chart.
