How early is too early to register?

Kathleen, on May 9, 2011 at 7:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I still have 15 months to go before my wedding and so far, there are no plans of a bridal shower. But, I really want to go register! I'm not sure why, but I really think it would be fun. Is this way too early? Just curioius!

Its never too early! You will be surprised how much you change/add/remove items on your registry as time goes by! Plus one less thing to worry about!

We went and did it in November and then last weekend at the prodding of my parents we registered at Macys for the nice stuff ... that'll probably stay in boxes forever except for a few things.

I disagree... and thats because I have worked at Walmart. lol. They typically change their setup atleast 2 times a year (typically after christmas and late summer). This means adding and deleting stuff from their set (and your registry!!) each time they redo it. I would probably wait until February of 2012 to do it just so that it saves you some work of having to constantly check on the availability of products.

I just realized that my opinion is solely based on Walmart... and you might be wanting to register elsewhere (where I live Walmart and Kohl's are the only options except for ppl wanting to buy online!). I would check with the stores and see when they typically reset. I just don't see the point in you doing all that work and having to redo it all when people probably aren't even thinking about getting gifts yet!

If you don't mind doing checking up on it multiple times and really just want to do it, there is no harm and is nothing tabu about doing it early!

We're not going to do our until July/August just because I feel that its too much work to do it so early, you have to keep up with it, take out all the discontinued items and update it every few months, I want the least amount of work as possible Smiley winking But I am really looking forward to it!!

I was thinking the same question. I want to go but I think I will wait for a year out at least.

Registering is fun! Which is exactly why you should wait. You and FH will get more and more stressed as the date gets closer - its unavoidable - I'd wait for a weekend when you are both 'weddinged' out and go take some time to stroll around the stores together with your scanner and forget about the wedding and start thinking about the married life! You'll both appreciate the break.
