How early is too early for invites?

Allie, on January 8, 2022 at 2:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13
Hey everyone!

So our wedding is September 30th 2022. We’re getting married in Tennessee. His family is traveling from Tampa FL, mine from VA, and some of our guests are traveling from Chicago. I want to send them 8 weeks before the wedding but I’m not sure if that is enough time for everyone to make accommodations.
Advice?

6 to 8 weeks is standard, should be fine.

Send save the dates at 6-12 months before the wedding either by telephone as parents and grandparents did or magnets in the mail. That gives everyone local and across the country time to make arrangements and schedule time off.

There is no reason to send the invites earlier than 8 weeks or later than 6 weeks. If you send them before 8 weeks, they will get lost and forgotten. If they are sent after 6 weeks, people will think they are afterthoughts just to fill seats.

Are you sending Save The Dates? If so, I would send the invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding, since they will already be aware that they need to make travel accommodations. Otherwise, 8-10 weeks ahead of time would be enough time!

I would send out your save the dates around 6 months before the wedding (so in March), so your guests have ample time to Mae arrangements. Then send official invites at the usual 8 week mark.

99% (I did the math) of our guests were from out of town and needed accommodations. We sent save the dates at the very beginning of February for our July wedding, and then sent invitations in May (approximately 8 weeks ahead). No one had a difficult time finding a place to stay.

Do not send them any earlier than 8 weeks. I have seen way too many people on here who have sent invitations out already for April or May weddings. With the ever changing Covid mandates/new variants, high gas prices, and unpredictable flights/cancelations, no one can plan anything beyond the 6-8 week range anyway.

I would say 8-12 weeks before the wedding. Usually 2-4 months from the wedding is usually when the invitations should be sent especially if you have out of towners. The earlier you send the out of towners their invitations, the better you are

Do you not plan to send save the dates instead? If guests receive invitations before 8 weeks before the wedding, they will lose and forget the information. No one can make definite plans before 4 weeks which is the standard rsvp deadline.

Don’t put your own money down. Ask hotels about a courtesy block which sets rooms aside but you are not financially responsible if they don’t get filled. Also make sure they are discounted because not all blocks have discounts from the regular rates. They are simply setting a group of rooms aside.

It’s 6-8 weeks for invitations and 6-8 months for STD’s. STD’s are not strictly necessary, as long as all VIP’s are aware.

I guess I'm different haha! I am getting married out of state and a lot of my guests are from all over the US so I sent save the dates last week and we are getting married in December. I wanted to ensure they have ample time to make arrangements. No excuse for a "No" haha! As for formal invitations, I think 8-10 weeks is plenty of time : )

    Congratulations!!!
