How does the marriage license work?

Lindsey, on October 11, 2020 at 1:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Do you have to get it in the county you live in? It can be 60 days before the actually wedding, correct?

You get it in the county you are getting married in, and the time frame can vary county to county and state to state, so I would reach out to the county clerk for the county you live in or check their website.

It definitely depends on the state. Here in CA, you can get the license in any county, regardless of the county you get married in. You just have to return it to the county you got it in after your wedding. We also have 90 days to use the license. I would check out the clerk-recorder office for your county/state to make sure you have all the information you need.

In Colorado it's 90 days and you apply for the marriage license where you are getting married in.

It may depend of where you live, but I think for most states you have to get your marriage license in the county you are getting marred in, not necessary where you live if you're getting married in a different state or county. In South Carolina (where I am from), you have to get married within 90 days of getting your marriage license or you have to start the process over.

It depends on the state. Call the clerk from the county you’re getting married in.

Depends on where you're getting married. In Delaware you can get in either of the 3 counties and it's valid for the whole state for 60 days. You're going to have to call the county clerk and find out.

It depends on where you are getting married. Every state and county has different rules. Where we got married we could go anywhere within the state to get our marriage license, but other counties require to you get your license in that county. You should call the court house in the county you will be getting married to find out their requirements.

The county where you are getting married and you can get it 60 days before. In my county you just have to get married within 6 months of getting it but I would check with the county just to be sure

It depends on the state you’re getting married in. Example: in Tennessee you can get your license in any TN county but it has to be a TN license and it can only be within 30 days of wedding.

It depends where you’re getting married, I’m getting married in Va and you can file in any city/county. I’m getting married in Norfolk, I filed in Newport News and I live in Maryland lol
