How does ordering a dress from Davids Bridal Work?

Amanda, on March 7, 2017 at 3:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hi,

I think I'll be ordering a dress from davids bridal as we have a couple around us and don't know where else to look for my dress. I had a couple of questions since I know nothing about ordering and getting my dress fitted to me.

How do I try them on in their store in the way of is what they have in their store a model that I try on and buy and they ship to get altered?

Does the dress price include alterations? If not do they tell you up front what the alterations price will be added onto the dress price?

Do they take care of the alterations for you or do I need to find someone to do that for me?

When do you pay for the dress and or alterations at davids bridal?

Do I need to schedule an appointment to look and try on some dresses?

And Last question for now is end of July too late to start looking for my dress when our wedding is November 5, 2017?

Thanks so much for any help that I receive. I just don't want to go in there completely confused.

They have sample dresses in several different sizes, they will ask you your street size and pull samples based off that.

Alteration prices are not included-you can use their services or external services. These prices vary on what type of alterations you need, you can consult with the seamstress there if/when you pick dress out.

You pay for the dress when you order it.

I wouldn't say you NEED an appointment, but if you want a stylist to be there with you and have their attention focused on you I would 100% recommend making an appt.

Waiting until July for your November wedding will limit your selections, greatly. Would not recommend waiting that long, some dresses I tried on took 16 weeks, but my DB brand dress took 1 month. So when you take alterations into consideration you could drastically cut out several options.

You need to schedule an appointment to try on dresses. You will try on a sample and if you like one they will order it your size. You pay for the dress then. Once the dress comes in you should schedule alterations. You can have alterations done at David's bridal or somewhere else, it's up to you. This is where they will take measurements for alterations. This is a separate cost from the dress. I would suggest you start looking now as the dress can take a few months to come in and alterations take about a month to complete.

You should schedule a dress appointment sometime soon. You never know what kinds of alterations you will need/how long they will take. The prices don't include alterations. You should ask the rest of the questions in the store.

I bought my dress from David's - I didn't have an appointment but they were relatively slow when I went so my stylist was in and out but still very attentive. I don't think July is too late but it will limit your selection - some of the dresses take no time at all to order but some of them can take awhile. I would honestly suggest going to look within the next couple of months to get some ideas, that way if there's a style that you like you can find out if it would take longer to order.

I would not wait until July to get a dress, way to short if you need alterations.

    Here is the process:

    1. Make an appointment to try dresses on(this can be done online)

    2. Try on dresses

    3. Pick the one you love!

    4. You pay when the dress is ordered, they will ship it to the store

    5. They will email or call when your dress is in.

    6. Pick it up, they will let you try it on at the store before you leave(no appointment needed)

    7. Schedule an alterations appointment (I suggest August or September for you)

That is as far as I have gotten, best of luck!

Thanks so much everyone for your help. I thought that ordering it was the alterations so shows how much I knew. So they will literally order a dress in your size and that when you pay for the dress? I'm a 00 so they would order a 00 for me? Then I pay for the dress when they order it for me? Then it comes in and I try it on and they'll tell me what alterations it needs? So if I pick a dress I liked in the store and some reason don't like when it comes in in my size it's mine and I must keep it?

I don't have a David's locally, I made an appointment and drove an hour to try them on. I ended up not ordering it from the store though. I ordered from the website when they were having a 20% off flash sale and it will be shipped to my house- I have a local seamstress who will be doing the alterations since I don't want to drive there and back each time, plus I have heard David's alterations can be a bit pricey. Another plus when you order from the website is that it can be returned.

Another November 2017 bride here! I would 100% suggest going during the week if you can, David's is usually packed on weekends, especially right now they call Jan-Apr (their bridal "christmas"). My dress came super fast, so now I have it hanging in a closet (FH promised not to look) however, it was supposed to take 2 months to come in. I would definitely give yourself more time for alterations than ordering it in July.

    Good Luck!
