How do you say thanks... but no thanks?

Hollyberry, on January 13, 2016 at 9:25 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I was just wondering if anyone has recently or in the past responded to a vendor that you have met with to say thanks, but no thanks. I will be responding to a florist today and want to make sure I am respectful but also let her know we decided on someone else. I guess I am trying to be extra sensitive because she was offering a deal for us and knows my brother, etc.

So polite way to say thanks but no thanks. Any emails you've sent recently that you are proud of and convey a good message?

    "Hi Florist -

Thank you so much for your time and especially the pricing regarding our wedding flowers. We have decided to go with a different vendor. Thank you again for your time!

    Respectfully yours -

    Bride and Groom"

Short and sweet and to the point. No explanation necessary.

    Dear XX,

Thank you for meeting with John and I. After careful thought and consideration we decided to go with another vendor (optional add-in: who is more affordable/offers X which we want/etc). We appreciate your time!

    Thanks, John and Jane

I included the phrase "... decided to go in another direction. Thank you so much, for spending the time to talk to us."

I was kind of wondering the same. My plan if needed is to just say, "Thank you for your time and for talking to us about your service. We will need some time to weight our options and if we chose to go with you, we will contact you within the next ___ days. I understand that it is first come, first serve if anyone else is to want our date as well."

Or just politely tell them that you have decided on someone else to provide whatever service for your wedding day.

Short, sweet...we are all used to it, and by next week? She won't remember who you are, which is kinda freeing.

But kudos to you; we all hate hanging in the air....

I agree with PPs those are fine, I'm sure vendors like florists and such are used to it. I am, however, dreading contacting the lady I had a hair and make up trial with last week to tell her I'm going in a different direction. I feel like the only reason you don't go with someone after a hair and make up trial is because you really don't like what they did and you don't think there's any hope of fixing it with another trial so I hope I don't offend her.
