How do we feel about picnic tables at the reception?

HowCo Industries, on February 13, 2018 at 12:50 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 36
I woke up today and, since I haven't yet booked a venue, started to rethink the entire thing. Change it from beach to park, which would save a easy 1k that I could put toward... well, anything. Our budget isn't terribly strict since it turns out the wedding of my dreams isn't all that expensive.
My only concern is that the beach shelter provides tables and chairs while the park shelter has picnic tables. I'm just not as sure about that. Keeping in mind that it will be a more casual event than probably most of your weddings, would this be a deal breaker?

It would be a deal breaker for me. Picnic tables are uncomfortable and so difficult to get in and out of in a dress, not to mention way too informal for even a casual wedding.

Yeah. It's hard for older to get in and out of picnic table. Not to mention how high you have to raise your skirt if you wore a dress

This would be hard and frustrating for guests of varying ages and since most people dress nicely for a wedding I would feel very awkward trying to get in and out of a table in a dress. Nope no thanks

Hard pass. I have a bad knee and have trouble getting in and out of picnic tables, even when I'm not wearing a dress...

My venue is at a lakeside pavilion in the mountains, and I'm having them bring our round tables for me. I don't want to climb in and out of picnic tables in my dress nor do I expect guests to.

I think this would work for only the most casual of casual weddings.

Like I am picturing you in a sundress and your FH in shorts.

See if you can rent a few folding chairs for anyone that possibly can't maneuver a picnic table.

Short Answer: Yes - it would be a deal breaker.

I was thinking that! I had done a quick Pintetest search and found a ton of people using them and they looked adorable. I'd started to think it was me being too picky.
I might see about if I could take them out and have other tables brought in. I just really like the ceiling better.

I don’t think so. Any wedding I’ve been to, with picnic tables and what not is always a Little uncomfortable and awkward. Wearing a nice dress and sitting at a picnic table isn’t the most appealing for your guests

No picnic tables. I would still rent tables and chairs.

What is your back up plan if it's raining or inclement weather?

It's a shelter. There are roofs at both locations.

As long as it fits your vision and how you want your wedding to be it sounds perfect!

A rainy wedding would still be really unpleasant even under a shelter, IMO.

Yeah deal breaker for me, too. There are a lot of things that look nice on pinterest that don't work in the real world and this is one of them. At best you have people awkwardly getting in and out in their dresses (and possibly dirtying them) and at worst you aggravate an injury or someone has to leave because of how uncomfortable they are.

Roofs don't always protect you from getting wet - especially guests who are seated on the sides closest to the outside. I take public transit and even when I stand under the awning at a bus stop I can still get damp because the wind may blow the rain around or the water dripping off the roof can splash down on you. There are more factors to consider than just a roof that keeps you mostly dry - but not all the way dry

It wouldn't bother me any, but it probably would be an issue for older guests

No worries. These shelters seat over 150 and I'm at half of that so we can give wide edges.
It's not a big concern, really. I'm aware of tents and walls and renting them. I'll be on that more as we get closer.

If you think you and your FH would like it, go for it! Happy wedding planning!
