How do I keep tall centerpieces from falling over?

Nicole, on April 13, 2009 at 6:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I'm having an outdoor wedding and I found a picture of a beautiful centerpiece that I'm in love with. It's very tall curly willow with greenery and white flowers added as well. I need it to be tall enough for the guest to be able to see under the main part of the flower to see the guest on the other side of the table. The "stem" is very narrow, so I'm trying to find tall, narrow vases (20"x5")(Any suggestions as to where to buy theses cheap?????). My only fear is they will blow over if it's a windy day. Do you have any ideas of how to keel these centerpieces stable?

You'll want to construct the centerpieces so they're not top heavy. one way to add weight to the bottom of the vase is to add river rocks or marbles.

Try putting little weights is the vases covered by pebbles in your wedding colors or rocks.

    Hello Nicole,

As event decorators we use very tall centerpieces quite often. We buy most of our pieces at market as wholesalers. Unfortunately, weighted vases are not cheap. You might want to consider renting your centerpieces through decorators such as ourselves since we rent at a normal one half of what you could buy the sames pieces wholesale. If not, test your piece before the big day. You have to expect the unexpected when setting up outdoors.

    Good luck,

You can put colored marbles in the bottom, or water with some food coloring to match your colors. And you can find good stuff at Micheals or even Walmart.
