How do I keep my bridesmaids warm?

Emily, on July 25, 2012 at 8:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

So I'm getting married in February in the Rocky Mountains and having the ceremony semi-outdoors, weather permitting. It is a pavilion, so no snow, and all the sides but the one framing the bridal party have canvas sides that can be closed. The facility can provide up to 4 space heaters, but since we are standing next to the open side, I'm worried that all of us girls will be super cold. My fiancee is considering getting pea coats for the groomsmen and himself instead of tux jackets, which I think would look great, but I don't think anything like that would work for the bridesmaids unless it is SUPER cold and we really need them. Any suggestions on coats/cardigans/shawls that might be warm enough, but still girly and appropriate?

Check with bridal shops. Sometimes they will have things like bolero jackets or short jacket. The bonus with a short jacket-if it's really cold, and they buy up a little, they can layer a little sweater under them. Are there sleeves on the dresses?

Bolero jackets would definitely work, or a nice warm knit shawl. You could probably find some really cute fur lined boots too. I'd worry more about their legs. That's what always get cold first on me, wool leggings in your wedding colors could be cute. And maybe they could carry old-fashioned muffs instead of bouquets?

Just throwing some ideas out there. Have you lived in CO long? It's rare to get a frigid cold day late in February, but standing there will get chilly.

Definitely a little lace or fur jacket would be so cute! Charlotte Russe, Forever 21 and Charming Charlie have little jackets and pashminas.

    Here are a few jackets:

You could do little puff-sleeve cropped or another style of cardigan too. If you google "bridesmaids cardigans" you'll see a bajillion really adorably cute ideas.

Coats! It'll look great! I would see about doing sweaters and coats. That way if it's warmer than you can do the cardigans, and if it's really cold you can do the coats. I honestly hate wraps for keeping warm. They may look pretty but they don't cover enough, and take more effort to keep in place than a jacket or cardigan.

I was looking at this website before trying to come up with ideas for my bolero, and I saw these:

I was thinking, "Dang! Why didn't we want to get married in the winter?! These are totally awesome!" That brown on in the top row looks really sophisticated and glamorous to me. Would look amazing at a 1920's/art deco themed wedding.

Thanks everyone! I think cardigans or lined lace jackets would look great, and that's what I'm leaning toward, but just in case, sweaters AND jackets is probably a good idea. I've lived in CO since I was 7, and I know Feb doesn't usually have super cold weather, but the wedding is up in Estes and the elevation is a little higher. Wool tights are a great idea Smiley smile I don't know if I could convince my MOH (my little sister) to wear them, as she hates pantyhose and is all about chic and fashionable clothing, but it'd definitely help with the cold.

The only thing you can do is to select thick wraps for your bridesmaids. I don't know which styles will be helpful for you, but you can take this as reference:

Maybe a little old? I don't know. You make the decision!

BCBG sells really dressy looking wool/silk cardiwraps where the sides are long enough to actually tie around your waist or fling over the shoulder like a wrap, it just has sleeves. The current season ones are spendy, but there's a BCBG outlet at the Colorado Mills Mall, I bought mine there for around $50. Still spendy but just another option. And I think lots of brands make knockoffs in that shape that are just as great.

    I would check Etsy too.

Here's what my friend did for us for her wedding. Although the weather looked nice, it was FREEZING! But the shawls and hand warmers were super warm!
