How do i go about finding a specific wedding dress?

Marisa, on June 10, 2020 at 5:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hello all! I am a March 2022 bride and I figured it's never too early to start planning and looking around for vendors, looking at pinterest etc. My fiancé and I just booked our venue and we are thrilled!

I have a very specific wedding dress that I have fallen in love with. I just know it's the one - I am still open to trying on other dresses though! Anyway, I was wondering how to find a sample of this dress to try on? It's a Stella York gown. Do I just call the bridal salons around me that carry Stella York and see if they have that style to try on? Or should I wait for a trunk show? I believe the dress is a 2 year old design so it's a little older. How do I go about this? I feel so silly asking, but any help would be appreciated!

Thank you Smiley smile

Being that's it's an older design, I would check Stella York's website to see if it is still being sold. It may have been discontinued by now and if that's the case then you will likely have to find it used. If not, you should be able to look on the website for locations near you that sell Stella York wedding dresses and I would call them and tell them the style number and ask if they have it in stock to try on.

I started planning 2 years out also! Yes, definitely make sure they carry that specific gown and then make an appointment. I was in love with Stella York and a specific style too but then went in and ended up with the TOTAL OPPOSITE so make sure to keep an open mindSmiley smile

Definitely find the store that carries that designer. I was able to borrow a dress for a small fee to try, I also fell in love with one online 😊 I did try on many dresses before having her get it for me, narrowed down the style of dress that I felt best in. Sometimes we have an idea in our mind, and we fall in love with something completely different. All the dresses I thought I like before going in to try on dresses or the first time, did not make me feel good lol Be open to trying others too 😊

One more thing, it it is 2 years old it probably won’t be at a trunk show.

This is true. A trunk show is a preview of their upcoming collection.

Look up authorized resellers/stores in their website then call them up to inquire if they have that dress in their store. Good luck!

If it's an older dress I'd suggest looking at stillwhite.com

I agree - maybe call around to places to see if they have that particular gown or see if they have anything close enough to it. there's so many gowns that honestly look nearly identical or the differences are ever so slight anyway

I would reach out to Stella York directly and ask them. They may know someone who still has the dress.

I don't think a trunk show would be helpful because those are normally to drum up excitement about their newer dresses, but I'd call them specifically to ask who is still carrying them, and then call those stores to ask if they have one in store. Some places also can get you one from Stella York to try on if they don't already have it. If no one is selling it new still, you could try places online that sell once-used dresses or some charities that sell once-used dresses (there's a boutique near me that sells donated-new and donated-once-used dresses to raise money for a town in Haiti that they sponsor, for example).
