How do i get my photos from my photographer?

Sue, on November 23, 2021 at 1:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I'm not sure what to do here...I got married on August 28, 2021 and have not yet gotten my wedding photos. The photographer contract stated we would have them between 8 and 12 weeks from the day after the wedding, which would have been November 21, 2021. I emailed her on that date and received no response. I called her yesterday and my call went straight to email. The lack of response or any contact from her since my wedding date is what has me worried. How long do I give her before I "push?" Of course, if I do not get the photos I want my money refunded, but I really prefer my photos! We had an unplugged ceremony and the idea of not having a single photo of my husband and I from our wedding day has my stomach in knots. How do I handle this?

Definitely keep reaching out to her! Because if not then you should be able to take legal action. Does she by chance happen to have a social media page? Reach out to her on all communication forms if possible. Let her know that you would like an updated status on the photos. Make sure to document or screenshot any emails, texts, and if it was by phone then write down the date and time of when you spoke with her to refer back to. I really hope you get your photos!!

As Heather said, I would reach out on all social media platforms as well. Continue to try, but I would go ahead and consult with an attorney if you have not heard anything by the end of this week.

My suggestion would be to give it another week or two but continue trying to reach her in the meantime. If you still haven't received the photos after that length of time, I myself would then think about pursuing legal action. Did the photographer require payment in full prior to the wedding or is there a portion of the fees due upon delivery of the photos? We opted for a photographer who requested a deposit; a second payment like 2 weeks prior to the wedding and final payment upon delivery of the photos. I realize it's a moot point now, but for those who are still in planning stages, this is the best approach with photographers. Protects you and them. There is also more incentive on their part to get the photos to you if they know it is dependent on delivery of the final product. My niece and nephew had a huge problem with their photographer several years ago and ended up having to take him to court.

I will say, a lot of vendors are running a bit behind on their deadlines due to all the craziness created by the pandemic. Should she have reached out to you to let you know that they would be late? Absolutely. But, there is a chance she has just been incredibly busy and it just slipped her mind. I will also add that response time with my vendors has been very slow since the pandemic also. Most of them have taken anywhere from a couple days to over a week to respond to my messages. If you have already emailed her and left her a voicemail, I would give her at least a couple days to respond before reaching out again. I agree that she owes you some sort of correspondence regarding the late photos, but I personally would not want to irritate or rush my photographer, for fear of getting poor photos or edits due to her feeling rushed or annoyed.

I am looking for photographers and spoke to one the other day and I mentioned how long I hear it taking to get photos back. He said his timeline is 14 days after event and he get photos back in 7 days. Three months is more than enough time. Why are these photographers taking on new clients if they can’t produce finished product in a timely manner? I’m
    sure you paid right away.
    Sorry you’re dealing with this.
