How do i find someone to alter my dress when i bought it in Chicago and live in Metro Detroit?

I bought my dress at the BHLDN store in Chicago but I live in Metro Detroit. I'm struggling to figure out where to get my dress altered. What do I look for? Where do you look? My dress is lace at the top and tulle on the bottom. It needs to be hemmed (a few inches), the straps need to be shortened, and it gaps next to my arms.

My guess is that most bridal shops wouldn't do it because I didn't buy it from them. Does anyone know of a good seamstress in the Detroit area? I searched on WeddingWire but I don't know what to do if I didn't buy the dress there. I haven't called any shops because I'm worried I'll sound dumb. I did get a bridesmaid dress altered in the area and they did a nice job, but my wedding dress just feels like a bigger deal.

I found the seamstress for my dress through a google search for "seamstress near me", along with asking for recommendations from friends on Facebook. Have you contacted the place that altered your bridesmaid dress to see if they also have experience with wedding dresses?

Two of my bridesmaids had their dresses altered at a bridal salon they did not purchase the dress from so I don't think it would hurt to call them. I would also just Google stemstresses in your area, read reviews then call the ones with good reviews.

I will call. They did do a nice job on my dress. I just felt like the place was so old because of the "old" looking prom dresses on display. But then again, I suppose the style of the shop doesn't tell you everything. Thanks for your advice!

That's really good to know. My first bridesmaid's dress didn't have to be altered so I didn't know anything about that and the second I got online. I'll look around at some of the salon's in the area and see what they say. Thanks for the response!

I got my dress altered at a bridal shop that I didn’t buy it at. They didn’t even carry the designer that my dress was. They were able to alter my dress with no problems. So I would call around to bridal shops in your area.
