How do I even start shopping for groomsmen attire??

His1&Only, on December 4, 2017 at 8:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Any advice would really help me. I know what I want the guys to wear, and what I want FH to wear, but are there any suggestions for websites or stores I can go to that are reasonably priced? I want to look at them first before I make the suggestions to my FH. And then see what he thinks and then proceed from there.

First, your FI should ask their budgets, the same as you would for your bridal party.

You should talk with your FI next. You could be just wasting time and spinning your wheels if he already has an idea of what he wants to wear.

Where you look also depends on other factors:

the level of formality of your wedding? what are you wearing? are the BM's wearing long dresses?

Is the wedding after 6 pm? then tuxedos are acceptable. Before that? suits or more casual dress.

Will they be buying or renting?

Yeah it'll be like a 4pm wedding so I was thinking khaki colored suits with gold bow ties and gold hankerchifs with the white button up shirts for then guys and then white bow tie and white hankerchif for my FH. But you're right, I should probably ask him first.

Men's Warehouse! We just went yesterday actually and picked it out! It is perfect because they have locations all over. Which is ideal for us because we live in Maryland, and the groomsmen live in southern California, northern California, and Detroit. The Men's Warehouse in our town set up a group that has the info about which suits they are renting. The guys go into their local Men's Warehouse and tell them FH's name and they pull up the group on the computer and then measure the groomsmen. Then 2 days before our wedding we can go pick up everyone's suits. We will have them at the rehearsal for the guys, which works great because all 3 groomsmen are flying across the country so they won't need to worry about transporting the suit. If there is an issue they can go to a Men's Warehouse closer to the venue (in DC) the day before or the morning of the wedding. Then we drop them off the next day. FH is a lawyer and is a suit snob because he wears them everyday, so he is going to be buying one from this boutique suit store that he buys all his stuff from. He didn't want to match the groomsmen exactly anyway, he is going to do a very dark charcoal grey, and the groomsmen are doing more of a medium grey. ETA: I said tuxes in one of rge sentences, I meant suits

I think you do need to ask him and then run the cost and style by his guys. Khaki, to me, is kind of a summery coor and it's not especially flattering to every guy. I wonder if a taupe-y kind of thing would look better on them?

I think there needs to be a good balance between your thoughts and what they'd like to be wearing....

I saw a LOT of tweed on my guys this fall, and it looked great on them.

@Kristin I really appreciate your comment! I'm beginning to lean more toward Men's Warehouse now.

@Celia I see your point. However, my colors are strictly white and gold. I'm different. I know. And the fact that I want these colors in the fall season is crazy too. I know. But I see a vision, and I figured I would go with it. I'm confident on how it'll turn out. But I'll look up an example of taupe just to get an idea. Thank you for the comment!

And yeah, I would talk to your FH about what he is thinking. We picked out what we wanted together, but FH definitely had opinions that I respected. He said he didn't want a tuxedo, wanted a regular tie instead of a bow tie, and he definitely wanted to get his suit at "his place" instead of renting what we are having the groomsmen get. He also had a few ideas about colors, and we decided on that together.

My fh decided to buy all their tuxes from men's wearhouse they were having a cyber Monday sale, so he got a Calvin Klein tux for $120.

Just because your colors are white and gold, doesn't mean the groomsmen have to wear khaki (I'm guessing that is your closest choice to gold for the men). Khaki is a very casual color. That's why you see warehouse men, gas station attendants etc wearing khaki pants.
