How do i avoid getting sick?

Madison, on June 1, 2019 at 10:28 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 7

As a person who has a weak immune system, I get a moderately bad cold every or every other month (and it lasts for about a week). I'm really worried that I will get one on my wedding day or honeymoon.

Any tips on how to avoid this? I already do everything I can think of, I take vitamin C, avoid touching my face and doorknobs and other dirty surfaces, wash my hands often, etc. Is there anything else that I can do?

Lots of water and a healthy diet... Other than that avoid everyone who coughs, sneezes or says they feel bad.... You can always take a complete vitamin as well. But other than that I'm not sure. Good luck!

Avoid alcohol & sugar/processed food at least a month before your wedding. Wedding planning can be stressful so I’d suggest exercise at least 3x a week to not let the stress build in your body (even if just a walk around the block). An acupuncture treatment or massage might also be good the month of your wedding. Leafy greens are supposed to help—maybe look up immune-boosting diet?

If you get a bad cold every month, can you get tests done? Maybe a doctor can tell you it’s allergies or suggest a flu shot or something to help your immune system?

I agree with all of the above and if you're already doing everything your medical providers suggest, I would just add trying to avoid big public gatherings as much as you can (e.g., amusement parks, movie theaters, flying -- if possible, etc.), get LOTS of rest, and try to think positively. If your expectation is, "I'm probably going to get sick," that won't necessarily make you sick, but it won't help your "trying not to stress yourself out" mindset. We have a relative who constantly talks/worries about getting sick, and, she's always sick.... I don't mean to be overly simplistic or dismissive of your concerns, but it might be beneficial to imagine that you're going to feel great rather than worrying that you'll be sick. Good luck!

I like your idea of having a positive mindset. I don't usually think about it but it just occurred to me when I was thinking about the wedding. I'm sorry about your relative.

    Thank you!

I got sick the day AFTER getting back from the honeymoon. All the hype beat me down and my body was done after that 😅.
Washing your hands is probably the most important thing you can do. Bring hand sanitizer around. Don’t touch your face without washing your hands (it’s allergy season so it’s easy to run your nose without realizing it!) Colds are transmitted by droplets, sounds gross I know. You need the droplets of a sick person to get into your airways. This is almost always through hands (unless someone coughs wet nasty in your face) Make sure you actually sleep. Try to control your stress levels (hard I know!)

there is no evidence showing vitamin C is effective at preventing illnesses. Your kidneys will just get rid of it.
