How did your nude underlay gown (ivory top layer detail) photograph?

J, on January 4, 2019 at 11:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
NUDE DRESS SOS!!

I’m am considering a gown with an Ivory tulle top layer. It has lace/beaded appliqués, with a Nude/Natural underlay.

My concern is that it won’t look “Bridey” enough. I’m afraid it will read too beige, and won’t look well or photograph well in dim lighting; getting ready photos, Church, On the dance floor, inside the venue, and at dusk.

Please share you pictures! Cell phone shots, professional shots, anything that could help give me an idea!

Thank you so much!

It will definitely look bridal so don’t worry about that! I think champagne underlay is gorgeous!

Thank you! It’s called nude though. It reads a little beigey in certain lighting. It seems a little darker than a Champagne. I wish it came in Champagne! Thanks again for your reassurance!

Hi J! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement!

I LOVE the look of a nude underlay below ivory! Super romantic, very unique, and definitely still bridal. Smiley heart

From the ones I have seen in-person and in photos from prior weddings, they typically photograph beautifully. Here is one I found below:

What is your dress silhouette like? I am not sure how similar this is to your dress but I think they look great in photographs and still look very bridal with the ivory and appliqué like you described. No need to worry Smiley smile

The front photographed a little darker in an area with less lighting, but that is part of my concern.

    Thank you so much, Maren!

I am looking for something romantic, and I think this fits it. I would love to be a little unique, but there’s the part of me that is a traditionalist and is concerned I’ll regret not going with ivory because it’s a classic and timeless.

I’m not so sure about the color, but the dress is very similar minus the buttons down the back. It’s a similar fit and flare, with a lower keyhole back.

    Of course!

J, the dress you posted is gorgeous! I personally think this concept with the nude & lace overlay it's a great balance of bridal, traditional, a little unique! The nude color is so neutral that I don't think it makes the dress any less classic or timeless, it just adds another dimension below the ivory. Smiley heart

Your thinking makes perfect sense and your wedding dress is completely up to you. Listening to your instincts is key and if you have always envisioned an all-ivory gown or feel you would prefer to do a pure ivory dress for your wedding day, it's a great idea to weigh all of your options.

Will you be going dress shopping again sometime soon?

Makes perfect sense. As long as you feel happy, comfortable, and beautiful on your wedding day, the dress you end up choosing will be great! Smiley heart

Best of luck to you in your decision and with the rest of your wedding planning!

Mine is ivory over Moscato. It still looks ivory in the the light and only slightly darker in dark light. I think even with the underlayer being different it still reads classic ivory. I hope my pics help.

Thank you so much for your comments and advice Maren. I love the dress and the concept. I’m just so torn. I keep flip flopping. I have no idea how to decide. I feel like either way I will wonder about the other color. I guess it was simpler when all dresses were just in white!

Your dress is beautiful! I love the way that color reads. I wish my dress came in that color. My decision would be so much easier. Mine appears a little darker. But yours has the best of both without the ivory detailing being lost. Your underlayer color is the perfect contrast. Not too dark or too light. Love it. Thank you for the pics!

I totally get what you mean. I honestly love your dress and the concept too. Hang in there and hopefully, with some time and reassurance, you'll get some clarity on this soon! Smiley kiss
